UKO Introduces Co-Living to Australia

Announcement posted by UKO Co-living 06 Sep 2018

The future of city living has arrived at UKO - Australia’s first co-living concept.

In the ever changing world that we live in, adaptability and flexibility are essential to thrive in this modern era. UKO focuses on intelligent and innovative use of space designed to suit adaptable living. With customisable furniture and fittings, residents can set-up or pack down their space in seconds to suit them and their lifestyles, while the UKO social spaces serve as a launchpad for inspiration, imagination and conversation with fellow co-livers.

With the first location set to open in Sydney’s Stanmore late September 2018, followed by Paddington and Newtown from 2019, e ach UKO is creating a network of co-living communities across core Sydney hubs ideal for urban renters.

No lock in leases, smaller bonds and no additional overheads. Veriu co-founders, Alex Thorpe and Rhys Williams have set out to disrupt the market and shift rental perceptions with their latest brand UKO (additional brands include: Veriu, Furnished Property and Punthill Apartments). “There is a growing mindset that people are constantly forced to compromise on how they live and work, especially in growing urban cities such as Sydney. We want people to feel that they are getting a return on their rent, almost as an investment, rather than dead money. We do this by offering access to a personal and professional network facilitated by the on site community host.” says Williams. UKO even takes it one step further, in contrast to current rental market dynamics, with their rule - the longer you stay, the less you'll pay.

Living in a world that is rapidly changing and emerging with new technologies and trends, Alex and Rhys aim for UKO to create a community of like-minded individuals who want to share ideas, those who are motivated by doing things differently and wanting to learn and progress. “We want to create a place that blends the concepts of live, work, learn and play into something more relevant. An anchor for curious people to explore, create and socialise.” General Manager, David Fitzpatrick shares.

UKO offers three room types for residents: UKO Flex, UKO Loft, and UKO Plus.* UKO rooms provide guests with maximum versatility in terms of the use of their room. From sleeping, to working, to exercising, to being with friends and hosting dinners, residents will be able to make the room adapt to their needs to live their way.

Fostering a community spirit, the large communal courtyard is the perfect space to share a drink, dinner or conversation with other UKO members. The courtyard plays host to an abundance of natural light during the day, with greenery, a communal table, veggie garden and “chill out” space. At night, it can be turned into an outdoor cinema with a projector and silent bluetooth headphones, a space for networking events or specialty workshops.

The UKO Community Host is core to the offering and enabling that feeling that residents are getting a return on their rent. Running events, facilitating networking, organising communal food, suggesting and/or organising activities, the Host isn’t just on hand for maintenance, but to make sure that residents feel connected to their surrounds. “At UKO we want people to really feel like the communal areas are an extension of their room. Like a giant lounge room or kitchen area. This is where the Host will hang and atmosphere will be created. Instead of coming home to an empty apartment and watching TV all night, guests will have the option of heading downstairs and having a glass of wine or sharing a meal with like-minded people.” Fitzpatrick explains.

UKO will be launching 21st September 2018 with 33 studios available. To kick-off the launch will be UKO’s Beta Weekend. A competition open to the general public, UKO will be hosting a group of lucky winners to stay the night and experience UKO first hand with dinner, a night of activities, private room, a morning breakfast and yoga class, and to top it off, a master cooking class before they check out in their own time.**
