FAST FOOD CHAIN MOS BURGER WINS PRAISE FOR IMPLEMENTING CAGE-FREE EGG POLICY ACROSS AUSTRALIA
Brisbane — MOS Burger, one of the world’s ten largest Asia-based fast food restaurant chains, was praised today by international non-governmental organization Lever槓桿 for switching to using only cage-free eggs in its locations in Australia.
“MOS Burger Australia is [now] sourcing our eggs locally which are cage-free,” said MOS Burger General Manager for Australia Tom Jolly in a statement provided to Lever槓桿. “We value as do our customers sustainability and a lot of our strategy moving forward will speak to this.” The move to cage-free eggs was executed over the past few weeks at MOS Burger’s Australia locations.
MOS Burger, a Japan-based brand with nearly 1,700 restaurants globally, currently has eight locations in Brisbane and Gold Coast and recently announced it will expand to 100 locations across Australia over the next five years. Other leading Australia restaurant chains such as McDonalds, Hungry Jack’s, KFC, and Oporto have previously committed to using only cage-free eggs. Going cage-free significantly reduces the suffering of egg-laying hens, who on caged egg farms are confined for nearly their entire lives in wire cages so small they can barely turn around and cannot walk, spread their wings, or engage in other natural behaviors.
“We congratulate MOS Burger on switching to using only cage-free eggs for its operations in Australia,” said Katherine Ma, program manager for Lever槓桿. “The vast majority of the world’s leading fast food restaurant chains have committed to going 100% cage-free in their primary markets. MOS Burger’s commitment to cage-free eggs in Australia is a positive step forward, and we hope MOS expands its commitment to going 100% cage-free to its key markets in Taiwan and Hong Kong in the near future.”
