(MOJAVE, CA) A team from Australia has set its sights on creating the first car in auto-racing history to raise the World Land Speed Record to 1000 MPH, and it is looking at American ingenuity to help get them to the finish line.

The vehicle, known as Aussie Invader 5R, will be fitted with a rocket engine uniquely designed by California-based Interorbital Systems. This bi-propellant rocket engine will produce the thrust required to accelerate the car from zero to 1,000mph in just 20 seconds.

Australian driver, Rosco McGlashan OAM (Order of Australia), is currently in the U.S. to scout out a possible site to challenge the World Land Speed Record in the High Desert of Utah, Nevada, and California.

Mr. McGlashan said, “I have worked all my life to achieve a World Land Speed Record and know we now have the car and Team to do this.”

Mr. McGlashan holds the Australian Land Speed Record and has exceeded 638 MPH in a previous jet-powered car.
