Box Hill Institute's new design hub creates exciting new opportunities.

Announcement posted by Modern Currency 18 Sep 2018

Box Hill Institute is proud to announce a new membership program for its Design Hub to help Australia’s future designers release their products to market.

The new Design Hub will provide first-class leadership by showcasing best practices, support, and training in the vibrant world of design. Members will have the opportunity and privilege of being a part of developing an exciting new community. Creative design entrepreneurs in fashion, graphic design, photography, visual merchandising, and interior design will come together to create new opportunities for themselves, and to help pave the way for future generations of Aussie designers.

The space will be the ideal forum to launch new brands, created and owned by Box Hill Institute’s long list of amazing talent. The Design Hub has been established with countless thanks and tireless effort by the Box Hill Institute Design team, led by Academic Course Manager Fashion, Debbie Pratt.

When asked about the opportunities The Hub will provide for students, Debbie said, “The opportunities are limitless as the Design Hub offers photography and graphic design students the ability to collaborate with aspiring designers, igniting the spark that begins their journey into the creative and commercial world of fashion.”

Odile Higgins, Box Hill Institute’s eminent Head of Design had her faith in what this new Design Hub can achieve further solidified when she spoke to a friend in the fashion industry. “She told me how hard it was to get her label out there. It wasnt just the practicality of making the collections but also the business side, including promotion and marketing. Where do you start?

Starting is one thing; the financial investment young designers face to set up their own studio, is another. Box Hill Institute’s new Design Hub will take care of this issue by providing full access to equipment and software programs for all members.

Odile went on to say, “Many graduates and emerging designers face these dilemmas. So we’re proud that our membership program will provide graduates and industry design professionals with access to our facilities. These include sewing rooms, pattern making tables, CAD rooms and a photographic studio”.

Applicants can sign up for a casual 3-month membership or apply for a permanent workstation. Either way, they will see first hand the incredible opportunities and resources The Hub will provide.

Box Hill Institute’s new Design Hub is also committed to working with industry, as well as supporting the already established local design community by providing members with a collaborative, entrepreneurial, and creative environment.

Guest speakers from industry, VIPs, alumni, and designers will attend the launch of the Design Hub membership program for start-up businesses on 19 September 2018.
