Resolution Revolution - A New Age in Digital Cameras

Announcement posted by Ricoh Australia 02 Apr 2002

Ricoh Australia launches the first affordable digital camera that can produce film quality images. The Caplio RR1 is a 4 mega-pixel CCD digital camera that takes incredibly colourful, sharp and clear digital images that rival the picture quality of the best 35mm cameras on the market.

The 4 mega-pixel resolution of the Caplio RR1 means that clear photo-real results can be reproduced even as large as A3 in size. This astonishing high resolution allows users to print detailed A3-sized photos of 2272 x 1704 pixels on a home printer. In addition the Caplio RR1 also boasts a remarkable 10.8X zoom though a 3X optical plus 3.6X digital zoom.

Unlike many unwieldy film cameras, the stylish Caplio RR1 is incredibly lightweight and slender. Highly portable and beautifully crafted, the RR1 is the thinnest in its class at just 26.6mm. Despite its slimline body, Ricoh have compromised nothing in functionality; the Caplio RR1 has 8MB of on-board memory plus the facility to accept up to 128MB Smart Media cards.

Its versatile multimedia capturing capability transforms the Caplio RR1 into a video camera or a sound recorder. In addition. the Caplio RR1 even allows users to capture text from pages or whiteboards making it the perfect work tool for the professional too.
The revolutionary lens architecture of the Caplio RR1 comprises 10 glass elements in seven groups. Three aspherical lenses help to minimise light dispersion and maximise light refraction. The result is a remarkable 200 mm/line resolution across the entire zoom range that optimises crispness and colour reproduction.

The RR1 is the second Caplio to be released following the success of the Caplio RR10 introduced this September. Incorporating many of the popular features of its Ricoh predecessors such as the RDC-7 and the RDC-i500, the Caplio RR1 has a flexible multi-angle monitor, 1cm macros and high quality trimming functionality.

Other features which combine to make the Caplio RR1 a real camera all rounder include:
0.8 second continuous shooting
Manual focussing
Exposure compensation
3 adjustable flash settings
Manual white balancing
Auto bracketing
Long-term exposure of up to 8 seconds
Additional shutter release button for vertical shooting
