Be swept away in an imaginative take on the folk idiom
Vanishing Shapes are an experimental folk band.

On their website they say they have been inhaling the coal dust of Newcastle since they formed, and exhaling sparkles all over the Eastern side of Australia.

Comprising flute, clarinet, guitar and double bass, the band's music was endearingly described as 'fairy music' in their early days.

They are very much a diverse and highly imaginative group. Their songs hint at melodic characteristics of Celtic, Turkish and Andean folk styles, chamber music, funk and progressive rock.

Members bring a classical background to their music and lyrics, taking interesting textural and harmonic turns whilst incorporating plenty of improvisation drawing on experiences in jazz and traditional folk fields.

Despite the bizarre combination of styles that are the driving influences behind their sound, Vanishing Shapes have found a home for their music in some unexpected places.

Highly energetic live performances are a bit humorous whilst bouncing from being playful, harrowing and ethereal creating moments that appeal to urges of dance, crying and escaping to other dimensions.
