'GM...OK?'

Announcement posted by Australian Chicken Meat Federation 27 Sep 2018

Are Australian meat chickens genetically modified?

Modern breeds of chicken are no more genetically modified (GM) than your poodle or Labrador.  Given consumers' uncertainty around whether chickens raised for meat are genetically modified - 37% of Australians say yes, 44% say they don’t know and only 19% say no - this month’s Chook Chat blog explains why #GM is not needed for modern commercial breeds of meat chickens to grow the way they do.

'Chook Chat' is the blog for the Australian Chicken Meat Industry, and this month’s post is by Executive Director and blogger Dr Vivien Kite.

About the ACMF
The Australian Chicken Meat Federation (ACMF) is the peak body of Australia’s chicken meat industry, representing both growers and processors. Its members are the five State Chicken Meat Councils (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and WA), the Australian Chicken Growers’ Council and the Australian Poultry Industries Association. Its blog 'Chook Chat' is aimed at providing an insight into the way the chicken industry does things and why – it is not intended to promote products, but to provide the facts.
