Integrated Research releases enhanced PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor

Announcement posted by Integrated Research 12 May 2005

Determining VoIP deployment deficiencies
Integrated Research (IRI), developer of PROGNOSIS Voice over IP (VoIP) and IP telephony management software, today announced the release of the enhanced version of its PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor solution, which is specifically designed to assess network readiness for VoIP, particularly across multi-site organisations.
PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor simulates actual VoIP traffic and records the effect on the network in real-time. It monitors call quality and highlights the limitations of current network devices to support IP telephony. Assessment is used to increase efficiency, ensure Quality of Service (QoS), and lower the cost of ownership of deploying IP telephony solutions into existing data networks. Essentially, pre-deployment assessment is the only way to guarantee a successful VoIP deployment.
The importance of pre-deployment network assessment cant be stressed enough, said Kailem Anderson, product manager, Integrated Research. Many of our recently acquired clients have specifically come to us looking for a solution to their IP telephony deployment problems. Fortunately, with our PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager solution we can provide the appropriate ongoing fault monitoring and troubleshooting support. However, the problems they encountered would not have occurred if pre-deployment assessment with PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor had taken place and the need for on-going management was recognised earlier.
PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor is unique. Anderson explains, It is the only true real-time assessment solution as it allows engineers to adjust a routers quality of service and view the results instantly. With PROGNOSIS there is no need to wait for a report, decipher it, then guesstimate the next incremental change.
New enhancements to PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor include comprehensive, post-assessment reports that provide a straightforward summary of the networks readiness for VoIP, and an in-depth technical evaluation. Reports are tailored for each role and responsibility, from the CEO to System Manager and technician, to understand what network balancing or upgrading is required to proceed with VoIP deployment.
David Wall, head of consultant engineering firm David Wall Enterprises, uses PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor for all commissioned VoIP deployments and says, A network assessment is crucial, no matter how simple the design seems. An assessment is cheap insurance, and goes a long way toward making sure the deployment is successful.
If you're a consultant who does VoIP implementations for many customers, make network assessment part of your usual design process. Don't let your customers down by proceeding with a deployment before you've used an assessment to prove the effectiveness of your design. That way, you and your customer get the peace of mind that comes from having proven the capabilities of the network before making a big investment or mistake.
PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor is also an important tool for ongoing monitoring, providing post-deployment capacity reporting to ensure the continued health of all network services.
According to Jeffrey Snyder, the Chief Analyst of IP Telephony at Gartner Group, 85 percent of existing networks are not ready for IP telephony, said Anderson. With PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Assessor we can determine exactly what the deficiencies of those 85 percent of existing networks are, and then monitor the ongoing health of the network once the deficiencies have been addressed.
