FREE VISION SERVICES AND TECHNOLOGY SEMINAR

PREPARING LOCAL RESIDENTS WITH VISION IMPAIRMENT OR READING DISABILITY TO BE NDIS READY

Accessing all the information we are presented with each day is becoming increasingly challenging for people with a vision or reading disability. Quantum RLV and Vision Australia will present the latest technology and service options for people with low vision and blindness at a free seminar to be held in the Gold Coast on November 7th 2018. Quantum RLV and Vision Australia are also current NDIS partners, and will offer insight into the scheme.

Guest speaker will be Karen Knight, General Manager (Advocacy) from Vision Australia.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to try assistive technology and talk to service providers.
On display will be ORCAM 2.0, the latest revolutionary solution for information access. OrCam MyEye, is an intuitive wearable device with a smart camera that clips onto a regular spectacle frame; just point and it reads to you. It is designed to assist anyone who struggles to read, has a learning disability, or trouble recognising faces or objects ‐ particularly people who are blind or vision impaired. OrCam MyEye allows you to instantly and discretely read text, recognise faces, as well as identify products and money notes. It allows a person to regain their independence and confidence-it relaxes them, makes them feel safer leading to self-reliance.

OrCam Australian distributor, Quantum CEO Tim Connell said “About one in seven Australians (1.25 million people) has some evidence of macular degeneration and this number will increase to 1.7 million by 2030, in the absence of effective prevention and treatment measures. It is important that anyone with impaired vision or is blind, has reading or learning difficulties to seek help early to maintain their independence and reduce the risk of accidents. Distance is often a deterrent, which is why are pleased to bring this roadshow to the Gold Coast.”
