Melbourne Girls Grammar is delighted to announce that our Chief Digital Officer, Mary-Lou O’Brien has been recognised in The Educator’s National Hot List for 2018. This list acknowledges individuals who have made a significant contribution to the K-12 education sector and who are at the forefront of education innovation and leadership.
Mary-Lou is currently celebrating her 10th year at Melbourne Girls Grammar, and her 2nd year as the School’s inaugural Chief Digital Officer. During this time Mary-Lou has transformed the digital ecosystem of the School, with a steadfast commitment to providing students and teachers with the skills to thrive in the digital age.
Melbourne Girls Grammar is widely recognised as being at the leading edge of digital transformation and innovation, and this has been achieved through the underpinning digital infrastructure driven by Mary-Lou.
In an Australian first, Melbourne Girls Grammar students are no longer bound by a school timetable but are able to access their courses 24/7 and work through them at their own pace. The digital transformation has enabled the School to build a blended learning model that breaks the nexus between student autonomy and scheduled class times and therefore students authentically shape their experience of learning.
Mary-Lou is not just dedicated to her school, she is also a major social contributor on her knowledge and experience, sharing her thoughts, visions and passion to others within the education community, something that holds her in very high esteem with her peers. She has presented at various conferences and events, in particular in 2018 at the Chief Digital Officer Summit and the World Disrupt Forum.
Mary-Lou has led the development of Melbourne Girls Grammar’s digital ecosystem, and championed technological innovation to advance the educational experiences of our students. - Principal Catherine Misson.
Mary-Lou has always been at the forefront of digital innovation and prior to her time at Melbourne Girls Grammar, she was one of the first graduates in Australia to hold a Masters in eBusiness and Communication, and earlier in her career Mary-Lou founded one of the first fully online retail businesses in Australia.
Mary-Lou is also a Finalist in the CIO of the Year Awards to be announced in November.
