GKN Aerospace Selects Cincom's Enterprise Management

Announcement posted by Cincom 25 Mar 2004

Operational excellence through customer collaboration
Cincom Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce that GKN Aerospace (GKNA) North America East sites have selected Cincom's Enterprise Management solution to better enable operational excellence through increased levels of supply chain collaboration for their global aerospace and defense customers. GKNA is an international, first-tier supplier of advanced composite and high-performance alloy structures to prime contractors such as Airbus, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin, and to jet-engine manufacturers such as GE and Pratt & Whitney.
Jay Fitzsimmons, President and CEO of GKNA North America East, explains, "Our company competes in an advanced manufacturing industry where technology plays a crucial role in our ability to succeed. There are many challenges in aerospace and defense that could not be met without the use of advanced technology like Cincom's Enterprise Management. At GKNA, we use information technology as an enabler to assist us in providing our customers with products and services that exceed their requirements, in the key areas of quality, schedule, cost, and manufacturing technology. Our customers expect excellence and Cincom will help us deliver on that expectation."
GKNA's business strategy includes growth through acquisition, and being able to quickly integrate acquired companies into their organization allows for smoother transitions of the business, without delays to their customers. Fanny Sloan, Director of IT for GKNA North America East, notes, "We see Cincom's Enterprise Management as a foundation for our manufacturing operations, and seek to rapidly deploy their technologies for future acquisitions." Sloan speaks from experience, having won a number of information technology awards for her ability to rapidly and successfully implement software solutions in support of mission-critical business needs.
One way GKNA is better serving their customers is through a portal built around Cincom's Enterprise Management solution. Sloan describes, "Our primary customer wants its suppliers to deliver products in unison with their consumption. They provide us a portal into their systems that allows us to see their inventory levels and production schedules. We recently designed and built a web-based application that wrapped around our Cincom ERP system and transformed the push, date-driven MRP logic into a new event-driven system. This supports evolving our entire production plan into a new business operation that builds only what is needed when it is needed. As the customer speeds up or slows down their consumption, we make adjustments in the entire supply chain to stay in unison with them."
Chris Astall, Cincom Program Manager for Enterprise Management Solutions, concludes, "GKNA is a great example of a company that is adopting powerful enterprise solutions from Cincom to effectively impact their customers' value chains. Given the pressures that aerospace and defense contractors face today, GKNA is positioned for greater success in the future because their technology strategy is tightly aligned with their business strategy."
