Bali tourist attraction goes green with renewable power

Terregra Asia Energy Tbk has completed its first commercial solar project in Indonesia at the iconic Waterbom waterpark in Bali.

 

Thousands of Australians visit the Waterbom waterpark every year and the new rooftop solar project will help this major tourist attraction to run on clean, renewable power.

 

The project will operate under a business-to-business scheme and is owned and operated by Terregra Asia Energy – a leading hydro and solar renewable developer and the only publicly listed IPP in South East Asia.

 

Construction was completed less than three months after the signing of the contract and it will be operational for 20 years.

 

“This is our first commercial solar project in Indonesia but we have many more in development,” said Graham Pearson, Director of its Australian subsidiary Terregra Renewables.

 

“Beyond the commercial solar projects, we also intend to develop, build and operate more than 500MW of hydro projects in Indonesia over the next 5 years.”

 

But with plans to grow further, Terregra Asia Energy Tbk launched into the Australian market earlier in 2018 and established Terregra Renewables to develop, build and operate utility scale solar projects.

 

Their Mobilong Solar Farm, located near Murray Bridge in South Australia, recently received planning approval and construction is expected to start in the next few weeks.

 

“We have been overwhelmed by the support from the Rural City of Murray Bridge council and are pleased that we can now start work,” said Graham.

 

The 5MW project will include approximately 16,100 PV modules and two containerized inverters.

 

“The Mobilong Solar Farm will generate 40 jobs during the construction phase, and we expect to start work in December 2018 and reach full completion in April 2019.”

 

“Terregra Renewables intend to own and operate the project for its 30-year life so from the very start we’ve been focused on being good neighbours and bringing positive benefits to the community.”

 

“We consulted with the nearby landowners and specifically amended the site layout to address the feedback that we received.”

 

“Now that we’re moving into the construction phase our focus turns to engaging local businesses and employing tradespeople from the surrounding region wherever possible.”

 

Terregra Renewables expects to have at least 35MW of solar projects operational in 2019 and boasts a pipeline of projects that are near shovel-ready.
