Vatican City Deploys RAD Ethernet Access Solution

Announcement posted by RAD Data Communications 18 Jan 2006

The Telephone Service of the Vatican State, which is responsible for the study, installation and management of the telecommunications infrastructure in Vatican City, has deployed a series of Ethernet access solutions from RAD Data Communications, a leader in innovative access solutions and network transitions for service providers and enterprises around the world
The devices have more than satisfied our requirements, reported an official of the Telephone Service of the Vatican State. They have demonstrated a high degree of reliability, and the configuration parameters indicate maximum flexibility and functionality.
RADs ETX-102 and ETX-202 Ethernet media converters, its Egate-20 channelised Ethernet gateway and RICi-E1 intelligent converter are being used to transport reliable and resilient Ethernet services over the Holy Sees fibre optic telecommunications network. Although the Telephone Service of the Vatican State did not disclose the precise nature of their application, the RAD products that are deployed are typically used for purposes of service termination and demarcation. This allows the operator to maintain a distinct separation of traffic from different customers and offer services such as interoffice LAN connectivity, Internet access and virtual private networks (VPNs). This approach extends the service providers reach over fibre while facilitating management of differentiated services up to the customer premises.
The RAD products were supplied and integrated by C.I.E. Telematica, RADs authorised distributor in Italy. RADs Ethernet access solution is robust and stable, noted Marco Castelli, who heads C.I.E. Telematicas Rome office. We are honoured that the Telephone Service of the Vatican State selected RAD products for this application.
