Australian-hosted Thycotic service protects account credentials from cyber attacks with full data sovereignty

Announcement posted by emt Distribution 30 Nov 2018

emt Distribution and Thycotic Australian channel partners can now provide hosted privileged access management without sending data offshore
Adelaide, Australia – 30 November 2018: Cyber security software specialist, emt Distribution today announced that its partner, leading privileged access management (PAM) solutions provider Thycotic, has launched a highly secure, Australian-hosted version of its Secret Server Cloud service.

The service is hosted on the Australian Microsoft Azure instance within the Canberra Data Centres (CDC). Microsoft’s Azure platform has been awarded ‘Protected’ level certification by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and CDC operates the only commercial data centre facilities accredited to the even higher ‘Secret’ level.

Each customer’s instance in the local Secret Server Cloud is completed isolated with its own database, cloud infrastructure and private encryption keys. Data remains encrypted at all times, at rest and in transmission. Databases are backed up every hour and benefit from Microsoft Azure’s high availability to ensure continuous availability.

“Being able to offer a cloud service hosted within Australian borders is critical,” said Andrew McAllister, Thycotic’s APAC Regional Director. “We’ve already seen the huge success of our PAM cloud services in North America and Europe and it’s great to now be able to address local data sovereignty concerns by hosting Thycotic Secret Server in the highly secure Canberra Data Centres.”

The local service allows Thycotic, emt and their channel partners to provide hosted privileged access management solutions to government agencies and other organisations with data sovereignty requirements. This significant investment demonstrates Thycotic’s commitment to the Australian market and understanding of local customer regulatory and compliance requirements. It supports the upsurge in government agencies working towards the Digital Transformation Strategy as well as the Australian Government’s Cloud Policy driving agencies to adopt a ‘cloud first’ approach.

The demand for PAM solutions – one of the ASD’s Top 4 cyber mitigation strategies – is growing rapidly among government and enterprise organisations. SMBs and mid-tier enterprises are also adopting more effective password management and other capabilities which protect against cyber threats targeting privileged accounts.

“Australia’s Notifiable Data Breach Act has created an opportunity among organisations that want to avoid the sort of security incidents that we are seeing on a daily basis, with 245 notifications in the last quarter alone,” said Scott Hagenus, CMO for emt Distribution.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) stated in its Q2, 2018 report that the majority (63%) of malicious or criminal attacks resulting in notifiable data breaches were the result of compromised or stolen credentials.

emt Distribution’s new MSP Privileged Account Management Survey found that over half (56%) of managed service providers said their customers had a password problem and that 85% of them believe there is growth potential in offering password or privileged account management as a service.

“Many Australian organisations still have serious deficiencies in their credential security,” said Hagenus. “There is a very real opportunity for channel partners to get ahead of the curve and take control of this process for their customers, and they can do this without long skilling up periods with hosted PAM solutions.”

“With the local Secret Server Cloud, organisations can now benefit from enterprise-grade PAM security with the low overheads of a hosted solution and keep their data in Australia,” said Kris Hansen, Director of MSP Sales, International at Thycotic in Adelaide.

“We’ve seen our channel community grow rapidly over the last 18 months and have achieved over 60% year-on-year revenue growth,” said Hansen. “We expect the Australian-hosted service to further increase demand for our solutions.”

Thycotic’s existing cloud customer base can also now benefit from the local service. If they wish, existing users will be offered a migration plan to move their Secret Server Cloud solution.
