Kodak Ships New i200 Series Scanners

Desk Top Production Scanners Feature Advanced Technology, Dockable Flatbed, FireWire Connection
ROCHESTER, N.Y., October 23, 2002 The new i200 Series Scanners from Eastman Kodak Companys Commercial Imaging Group are now shipping to customers worldwide. The scanners have been widely acclaimed by a number of distributors, integrators and test site customers and are already slated for installation in a variety of vertical markets from insurance to government agencies and financial institutions to transportation companies.
The i200 Series Scanners offers breakthrough technologies many leveraged from Kodaks award-winning high-speed production scanners and contain a combination of capabilities unmatched in its class, including capture of color images at the same speed as bitonal, a unique dockable flatbed accessory, a plug and play IEEE-1394 (FireWire) connection, SurePath paper handling, and an array of Perfect Page image processing features such as autocrop, deskew, despeckling and adaptive threshold processing all focused on maximizing throughput and return on investment.
The i200 Series Scanners combine the best technology from Kodaks higher-volume scanners, said Fred Rosewag, federal business development manager, Promark Technology. By combining the CCD sensor, the paper-handling technology, and the dockable flatbed at a affordable price point, we believe this scanner family will take ownership of the market segment.
Our customers asked for advanced imaging technologies in the low volume category, said Paul Whittard, general manager of the Groups document imaging business in Greater Asia Region. This product set delivers our most advanced technologies like the Kodak TriColor Plus CCD Sensor, which enables high-speed, bitonal or simultaneous bitonal and color capture at a price point normally associated with bitonal only scanners.
The i200 Series Scanners are designed to handle more than 5,000 pages per day, and up to 50 pages per minute (ppm) or 100 images per minute (ipm) at 200 dpi in color, grayscale or bitonal. The scanners are the first truly modular family of desktop production scanning devices.
The i250 Scanner (simplex) and i260 Scanner (duplex) can be converted from sheet-feed only units to sheet-fed with flatbed via the industrys first-in-category, A3 size dockable flatbed accessory. The flatbed easily snaps into the scanner for documents that need special handling, such as bound materials. Other options include a post-scan imprinter.
The i200 Series Scanners are packed with advanced technology, said Eric Hesnard, director of DICOM France. This product should have a similar positive impact on the low-volume market as the Kodak Digital Science Scanner 3000 Series had on the mid-volume scanning market.
Kodak has loaded the i200 Series Scanners with features found on its highest-speed i800 Series Scanners delivered last year:
Kodak TriColor Plus CCD Sensor, which allows simultaneous output of high resolution black and white and color
Electronic color drop-out to remove irrelevant background color (e.g., on business forms) to provide clear, sharp detail and smaller file sizes
3D multi-feed detection with ultrasonic technology, a nearly calibration-free system that minimizes the risk of lost documents
Kodaks Perfect Page imaging technology reducing the need for operator involvement eliminating pre- and post scan quality control
Leveraging the superior Kodak feeder technology allowing you to feed almost everything. The paper handling is almost unreal, said Young Hwan Kim, KMS Korea. Until using the i200 Series Scanners, I have never seen a low-volume scanner that accepts torn documents without damaging them any further.
The i200 Series Scanners, which are Energy Star compliant, are delivered with both ISIS and TWAIN drivers and Kodak Capture Software Lite, which supports all innovative features of the scanners. Available in the fourth quarter 2002 will be a full version of Kodak Capture Software, a high performance plug and play application with an array of indexing and batching features that can be used with a majority of popular document management and imaging systems.
