Model Madeline Stuart undergoes open heart surgery.

After attending Madeline’s yearly routine check-up, she was advised by her doctors at The Prince Charles Hospital that the leaking mitral valve in her heart had deteriorated and she was now in advanced heart failure. The doctors informed her that she would require open heart surgery to repair the valve. Madeline’s surgery was scheduled for late November however she unfortunately fell ill with a chest infection and it was postponed.

Madeline was admitted a second time at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane on Sunday 9^th December to undergo open heart surgery the following morning. In the complex five-hour surgery, the hospital’s surgical team successfully repaired Madeline’s mitral valve. The procedure went better than we could have hoped, if everything continues to go well she will hopefully never need surgery again. Madeline was admitted to the intensive care unit to begin her recovery. She remained in intensive care for three days with her Mother Rosanne and family friends by her side. Although it was a relief she was out of surgery, her time in ICU looked very dire at times. Thankfully Madeline progressed, and things are looking more promising.

Madeline is now at day 4 recovery and has been transferred from the intensive care unit to a private room at The Prince Charles Hospital, her road to recovery will be long and difficult but she is determined with her usual fighting spirit.
