Warakirri College Fairfield’s Students and Teachers Welcome Fantastic Furniture’s Christmas Gift

A total of five brand new sofas in shades of navy and vibrant teal were delivered to the school, and have been wholeheartedly welcomed by students, teachers and administrators.

Three sofas have been installed in a student common area to replace worn furniture; feedback from students describes the new additions as ‘super comfortable’ and ‘great for hanging out’. One sofa has gone to the counsellor’s office, where there’s plenty of traffic; and the last to the library, which also doubles as a quiet room for students who need to recharge.

“The environment here is what makes Warakirri different. Our partnership with Fantastic has enabled us to provide our students with a beautiful, comfortable environment that helps them feel safe and able to be themselves. And when they feel comfortable, they’re better placed to learn and thrive,” said Jennifer Lawrence, Head of Campus at Warakirri College Fairfield.

“These donations have a practical aspect too: the money we’ve saved on these sofas is now able to be spent on providing our students with more opportunities to learn.”

MTC Australia has enjoyed a mutually beneficial partnership with Fantastic Furniture since 2014. Fantastic has furnished rooms at MTC Auburn and Parramatta, as well as both Warakirri College campuses at Fairfield and Blacktown; offered work experience opportunities to MTC SEE (Skills for Education & Employment) students; and employed young people from the Transition to Work program.

Warakirri College is an independent high school for young people aged 15–22 completing their Year 10 and Higher School Certificate. Students have disconnected from mainstream schools due to peer relations difficulties like bullying or gender issues, mental health challenges such as anxiety or depression, complex family backgrounds, refugee experience or parenthood.

Warakirri is an independent high school with campuses at Fairfield and Blacktown. As a social impact initiative of MTC Australia, students do not pay fees and are provided with textbooks, food and other resources. Graduates typically progress to University, TAFE, private colleges and employment.
