Verbatim announces Store n Go USB Drives

Announcement posted by Verbatim 10 May 2005

Verbatim announced today that it is shipping new Store n Go USB 2.0 Drives that support up to 8MB/sec read and 5MB/sec write performance on USB 2.0 systems. With the ability to transfer 256MB of data in about 30 seconds and with capacities of up to 1GB, the new Store n Go drives ensure high performance on todays fastest computers, making them ideal for storing, sharing and transporting any type of digital data, including spreadsheets, presentations, music, photos or video clips.
The highly reliable USB drives are non-volatile flash memory devices, about the size of a AA battery, that offer hi-speed plug-and-play compatibility with all desktop and notebook PCs equipped with a USB drive. Housed in an attractive translucent red plastic shell, the highly portable devices provide true cross-platform compatibility and support Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems.
The new StorenGo drive takes full advantage of the speed capabilities of the USB 2.0 interface, said Alan Kleeman, Verbatim Product Services Manager. Not only is it one of the fastest, sleekest form factor USB 2.0 drives on the market, it is sold complete with all the accessorieslanyard, security software, and special design features for ease of use. In terms of speed, the StorenGo USB 2.0 drive is roughly five to eight times faster than a typical USB 1.1 flash drive. For people on the go, the ability to load or transfer files in 30 seconds or so, instead of 3-4 minutes is a major benefit.
Verbatim StorenGo USB 2.0 drives can be used exactly like a floppy disk, hard drive, or a CD ROM but are much more convenient for carrying your data with you. You can slip it into your pocket or purse, clip it on your keyring, or use the handy neck lanyard that is included with the drive. This makes it easy for road warriors and commuters to carry their data with them for easy access on any computer equipped with a USB port.
By enhancing data mobility and access, StorenGo can help minimise the necessity of lugging a laptop from office to home to school. StorenGo is an ideal accessory for students to transfer files and projects from school libraries to the home PC. Families with two or more computers in the home can use the drive to transfer files from one computer to the other, instead of setting up a network. Individuals can safely store their PIN numbers as well as emergency medical and contact information on the USB drives for fast, easy access from most computers. Office workers can download confidential web mail or attachments to a StorenGo USB drive, instead of a business centre PC.
To meet the security needs of USB drive users, the StorenGo drives include password protection and public/secure partitioning features. These features are designed to prevent both unauthorised access to files and accidental erasure of important files. The manager software that is included with the StorenGo USB drives can also be used to partition the drive into a public and secure partition, so that sensitive data on the secure partition cannot be accessed, even if the drive is lost or stolen.
Verbatim also announced plans to release the StorenGo Pro USB drive in around 3 months time. Offering higher performance, higher capacities and more advanced security features than other popular USB flash drives, the ultra-sleek Pro devices will support up to 23MB/sec read and 14MB/sec write speeds and will be available in capacities ranging from 256MB to 2GB.
