Vinomofo releases the first Victorian Homeless Grapes Project

DRINKING CHARDY FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Vinomofo releases the first Victorian Homeless Grapes Project

Back in February 2018, a bunch of vino-loving individuals came together for a community grape picking at De Bortoli Wines. The reason? To create an exclusive drop that could be sold off to raise money for charity. The result? The Homeless Grapes Yarra Valley chardonnay.

Last year marked the first year Vinomofo’s Homeless Grapes Project came to Victoria. Winemakers, growers, producers, families, and individuals all came to the party to donate their time and resources to a project that gives 100% of its profits back to the community.

This February, The Yarra Valley chardonnay; crafted with grapes donated from De Bortoli, Rochford and Tarrawarra will hit the Vinomofo website for sale to the public. 100% of proceeds - yup, every single cent - will go to St Mary’s House of Welcome, an amazing frontline charity with an open door policy for those experiencing homelessness, or those living in poverty in Melbourne.

The wine in the glass speaks volumes, even if you didn’t know the backstory. The coming together of grapes from Tarrawarra, De Bortoli and Rochford creates a harmonious whole that seems to have amplified the best parts of each. It’s fine, fleshy and minerally all at once. Its steely backbone is wrapped up in honeydew melon, grapefruit pith

and almond croissant flavours. It weaves a long, captivating story on your palate, with effortless generosity that echoes the intent of the Homeless Grapes project. As if you already didn’t feel good about buying this wine.

Justin Dry, Vinomofo’s CEO and co-founder is looking forward to seeing Australians stock up on a delish drop to back a good cause.

“The Homeless Grapes Project kicked off in Adelaide in 2015 and we’ve been looking forward to bringing it to Victoria ever since. St Mary’s House of Welcome is doing a lot of incredible work for melburnians experiencing homelessness and to see so many people donating their time to get this project off the ground in the Yarra Valley has been surreal.”

“Last year our McLaren Vale shiraz made more than $59,000 for the Hutt Street Centre in Adelaide. That is truly life-changing stuff for hundreds of people who have been doing it really tough. Over the four years that we’ve been working on this project, we’ve donated more than $150,000 to local charities and we’re not planning to stop any time soon”

“From a Facebook post in 2015, we’ve grown this cause to become a national project, each time working with local frontline charities so we can be hands on in making a difference.”

The Yarra Valley regional chardonnay will be available for purchase on www.vinomofo.com from 4th of February at $25 per bottle, sold in a case of six.

About Homeless Grapes Project

In 2015, McLaren Vale vigneron Jock Harvey from Chalk Hill posted on Facebook saying he had three tonnes of beautiful Shiraz grapes that his team weren’t able to pick. He offered them to anyone who was willing to make a donation to Hutt Street Centre, an awesome charity that works tirelessly to transform the lives of the homeless in South Australia. At Vinomofo, we immediately wanted to help out. But instead of picking the grapes and making a small donation, we thought, what if we all rally together to pick the grapes, make a beautiful shiraz, sell it and donate ALL of the proceeds to Hutt Street Centre? What if we could use beautiful wine and this passionate wine community to affect real change? So we did just that. And with the help of a collection of great people, we were able to donate $45,000 to Hutt Street. The donation provided 1500 meals, basic human services for 150 people and jobs for 30 people. And that was that - Homeless Grapes was born. So far we’ve raised more than $150,000 for those experiencing homelessness across Australia and this year, we’re expanding the project into NSW for the very first time.
