Kerio makes workgroup collaboration focus of latest mail server release

Announcement posted by Infotronics Software 03 Jan 2003

Managed contacts and communication are central to Kerio MailServer 5.5; Active Directory support challenges Microsoft Exchange
Kerio Technologies, a software developer specialising in security solutions for small and mid-sized businesses, has launched the new version of its multi-platform messaging solution, Kerio MailServer 5.5. This secure mail and workgroup server provides a variety of methods for securely accessing mailboxes, a unique internal anti-virus control, and a powerful anti-spam filter. Now businesses can also use Kerio MailServer 5.5 for managing and sharing client contacts and running news or discussion mailing lists. For Windows network administrators, Kerio MailServer 5.5 is the first non-Microsoft mail server that provides full Active Directory integration.

The most eagerly anticipated feature is the new server-based address book, which supports client contact management and sharing via the WebMail interface. Using the LDAP protocol and the included synchronisation agent, contacts can also be stored and updated locally in Outlook Express. The synchronisation agent also supports folder sharing in Kerio MailServer so that email stored locally in Outlook Express folders can be made instantly available to authorised users.

For larger networks, directory services can greatly simplify network client management, and having a mail server that can store and update accounts using the directory contributes to this benefit. Active Directory, Microsoft's solution on Windows 2000 Server, is a popular LDAP compliant product that never natively connected to any product other than MS Exchange - until now. Kerio MailServer 5.5 boasts complete Active Directory integration, for both storing and editing client accounts. What's more, the internal account database in Kerio MailServer can be run concurrently with Active Directory, to provide additional support for such wisely used features as aliases, groups and mailing lists.

Anti-virus control is still a key feature of Kerio MailServer 5.5, with support for several third party scanning solutions. Kerio MailServer 5.5 with McAfee Anti-Virus combines all the new features with the convenience of integrated virus scanning and the dependability of McAfee Security.

Small Enterprise is not an oxymoron. Companies with fewer than 100 employees expect the same reliability, accessibility, and security as much larger organisations, says Dusan Vitek, Director of Marketing for Kerio Technologies. The problem is that the price and complexity of most enterprise messaging solutions prohibit adoption by smaller companies that pay a considerably higher amount per client for solutions that they don't even have the IT resources to maintain. Kerio MailServer can turn any network administrator into an email messaging guru within minutes for less than the cost of the operating system required to run MS Exchange 2000. Scalability is not an issue either; Kerio MailServer can support several thousand clients and connect directly to Active Directory.
