Monash University First To Join Compuware's OptimalJ Education Access Program

Announcement posted by Bass PR 06 May 2003

Compuware Asia-Pacific today announced that Monash University has chosen its OptimalJ development environment to be included in the Faculty of Information Technology's curriculum. Monash will use OptimalJ when educating students in JAVA commercial application development software.
Through the OptimalJ Education Access Program, around 400 students will gain practical experience of an innovative business application solution for the rapid design, development and deployment of reliable J2EE applications. They will be able to design and develop their assignments and projects faster than in any other development environment.
OptimalJ is Compuware's high-productivity, model-driven, pattern-based tool for developing J2EE technology-based applications. It uses patterns to automatically generate code that transforms models into a proper architecture and ultimately into a working application.
Commenting on Monash University's decision, Peter Pritchard, Marketing Director, Compuware said: "Monash is one of Australia's leading universities for JAVA courses. We are delighted that Monash has recognised the value OptimalJ by adding it to their IT curriculum. As well as learning model-driven development techniques, familiarity with OptimalJ will enhance the students employment prospects".
Dr. Sita Ramakrishnan, Software Engineering Course Leader, Monash University said: "OptimalJ will provide our students with the best opportunity to build their application development skills. We are looking forward to developing an ongoing relationship with Compuware, as a key partner of the University".
The lecturers at Monash University have documented the likely learning experiences for students. Each lecturer, who has OptimalJ in a subject curriculum, is receiving on-going support from Compuware. Access to the global resources of Compuware directly assists research projects being undertaken by lecturers and post-graduate students.
Students who graduate with a working knowledge of OptimalJ will be able to assist organisations in driving their competitive edge. According to Michael Blechar, Gartner, "Organisations using a model-driven or pattern-based application development framework containing a large inventory of business components have the potential to be five to ten times more productive and responsive"
