Yess app Founder’s same-sex wedding using new app
World’s first LGBTQIA wedding planning app launches in Australia

Media Release - 8 April 2019

Introducing yess, the world’s first, innovative mobile app designed specifically to help the LGBTQIA community in Australia to find non-discriminatory service providers for their next event. yess app helps same-sex couples to plan the perfect wedding, using businesses that love working with people of all walks of life. On Saturday 30th March 2019, Jill Burgess, Founder and Managing Director of yess app, married her partner Kim after celebrating their 21st anniversary last month; 21 years of facing hardship, adversity, prejudice and many challenges.

Jill Burgess says, “The idea of yess came to me back in December 2017 when I was starting to plan my own wedding after the ‘YES’ vote went through. I drove past the church my parents were married in and thought, ‘Wow, now for the first time in my life, I can get married.’ I then wondered if anyone in the LGBTQIA community wanted to get married in a church and how you would find out which churches would actually do it.”

Thanks to yess app, Jill & Kim planned their wedding in comfort knowing their service providers from marriage officiator and venue, to DJ and the jeweller, are 100% supportive of same-sex marriages. Everyone knows planning any kind of wedding can be stressful, even without the scrutiny of family, friends and strangers that can sadly happen with a same-sex wedding. Yess app has made the wedding planning process as smooth as possible for Jill & Kim.

“Knowing how challenging planning a same-sex wedding can be from experience, I believe yess will be able to take the stress out of event planning. Eliminating the worry of whether a service will accept you and your event, yess is an app here to help those in the LGBTQIA community by allowing them to celebrate in style and confidence. You don’t need anyone negative around you when you’re planning one of the most special days of your life!” adds Jill.

Jill married her partner Kim at Toowoon Bay Surf Life Saving Club on the Central Coast. As one of Jill and Kim’s favourite spots, the beach at Toowoon Bay holds a lot of special memories for them both. Other service providers listed on the app and used for Jill’s wedding include:
