The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is pleased to announce that Natasha Stott Despoja AM will be the keynote speaker of the AASW Conference 2019, which will be held in Adelaide from 7-9 November.
AASW CEO Cindy Smith said, “We are delighted that Ms Stott Despoja will be our keynote speaker. Her commitment to challenging inequality, particularly gender inequality, will be a vital contribution to the conversation about what we can all do to create a just society for all.
“As the youngest woman to ever enter Australian Federal Parliament, and as a former leader of a political party, she shows us all that diversity in leadership is not only possible, but vital to challenging inequality.”
Ms Stott Despoja is the founding Chair of Our Watch (the Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women and their Children). Between 2013-2016, she served as Australia’s Global Ambassador for Women and Girls responsible for the promotion of women’s economic empowerment, women’s leadership and the reduction of violence against women and girls.
Ms Stott Despoja said, “Social workers play an important role in challenging inequality. I am very pleased to be the keynote speaker at the AASW National Conference 2019.”
Registrations are now open for the conference, with early bird registrations closing on 7 August.
Ms Smith said, “We look forward to the AASW Conference 2019 in November, where we expect around 600 delegates from all over Australia and beyond. In an increasing globalised world, it is important that we work collectively to challenge inequality in so many areas, including gender, environmental, social and economic.”
Sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities are available.
