An innovative medical system, TheraCloud™, has the potential to save Australia up to $983m annually by reducing the incidence of pressure injuries in aged care facilities and hospitals. It can also help aged care providers meet new mandatory reporting requirements, which come into effect on 1 July 2019.

A world first in pressure care and pressure injury prevention

TheraCloud™ is a WiFi-enabled pressure control system, designed and manufactured by an Australian company, Patient Support Systems. The only WiFi one-touch solution of its kind, it connects air alternating systems with nursing staff in real time, allowing them to obtain vital patient data and remotely adjust mattress pressure settings.

“By capturing facility-wide data in a single click, TheraCloud allows carers to take complete control of pressure care therapies from anywhere in their facility. The remote control functionality eliminates the need to move patients manually, which can be time and labour intensive, especially in large facilities.”

Daniel Yaffe | Director – Patient Support Systems

As well as preventing life-threatening pressure injuries, which affect up to 17.6% of hospital patients, TheraCloud™ enables huge time and cost savings for the Australian medical industry.

The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority estimates a 13.9% increase in care costs for a patient who develops a pressure injury. A recent study by the Australian Health Review estimated the national cost of treating pressure injuries to be $983m per annum.

Mandatory reporting for pressure injuries from 1 July 2019

From 1 July 2019, all Commonwealth subsidised residential aged care services across Australia must collect and provide clinical quality indicator data to the Department of Health. The mandatory reporting covers three clinical quality indicators, with pressure injury topping the list.

If done manually, quarterly reporting on pressure injuries will be time-consuming for aged care providers whose resources are already stretched thin. TheraCloud™ solves this problem, providing all the data needed for reporting instantly via a one-touch audit.

Current trials of TheraCloud™ systems in aged care facilities across Australia have produced outstanding results.

“The system is easy to use with app-based WiFi connectivity. It’s the ability to monitor mattress pressure without disturbing sleep or invading privacy is a key benefit. It’s ideal for pressure management and preventing pressure injuries for at-risk residents.”

Andy-Zhuang Cai | Director of Care – New Horizons

TheraCloud™ is whisper quiet, vibration-free, and compatible with most air alternating mattresses or overlays. It is backed by a comprehensive 4-year warranty, which includes guaranteed replacement or repair within 3 business days.
