CA makes UniCenter Desktop DNA available through distribution channels in ANZ

Announcement posted by CA (enterprise) 10 Nov 2004

Computer Associates (CA) has announced the availability of Unicenter Desktop DNA through its Australia and New Zealand reseller channels. This technology lets CA channel partners address customer PC migration management issues that complicate straightforward system upgrades.
Enterprise IT departments often face significantly increased workloads when upgrading or replacing large numbers of PCs. By automating these tasks, CA's Unicenter Desktop DNA reduces PC ownership costs and minimises downtime. It also gives IT managers the ability to quickly and easily replicate desktop configurations and through this, reduces end-user support costs.
CA channel partner in Australia, Ethan Group, welcomes the addition of CA's Unicenter Desktop DNA to the reseller channel. "It's a positive step to continually helping customers drive down the cost of desktop software migration, as well as providing an effective, post migration desktop disaster recovery solution," said Tony Geagea, director of sales at Ethan Group.
Unicenter Desktop DNA is part of CA's desktop management portfolio, which includes solutions for software distribution, asset management, patch management, remote control, data backup and restore, antivirus and vulnerability management.
Vicki Bain, channel sales manager, CA said, "With Unicenter Desktop DNA, CA is equipping the channel with a powerful solution and targeting a significant growth opportunity as PC upgrades continue to be an issue for businesses. CA's channel partners are proven to be highly skilled at understanding their customers' business and technology challenges, and leveraging CA solutions as a means of addressing them".
New Zealand's Wellington City Council purchased Desktop DNA to assist with its migration from Windows 95 and 98 to Windows 2000 and Office XP for 1,000 desktops.
Desktop DNA let Wellington City Council automatically migrate general Office settings, including custom dictionaries, autotext and autocorrect entries, as well as system settings including Internet Explorer favourites so that each users' personalised desktop was replicated in Windows 2000 and Office XP.
Desktop DNA also identified Office files that were stored locally and migrated these to a network drive to make sure data wasn't lost in the system upgrade.
Stephanie Mardell, project manager of Wellington City Council, said Desktop DNA was the only product that met Wellington City Council's requirements at the time.
"We needed to ensure the system upgrade had minimal impact on staff and sought a solution that could migrate staff's personalised settings efficiently. The upgrade to Windows 2000 and Office XP was successful and greatly assisted by the ability to automatically migrate user settings. Desktop DNA reduced the manual effort and time spent on data migration and through this, helped us maintain our end user productivity," said Stephanie Mardell.
Pricing for Unicenter Desktop DNA starts at $USD 26.40 per node for 100 nodes and includes one-year of enterprise maintenance. It is available to solution providers through its Distributors Express Data and Tech Pacific.
