Joyologist Smiling for Smiddy

Announcement posted by Joyology 10 Jun 2019

She said "onyabike" sonny and that's what he did

Who knew that when Pat Armitstead, The Worlds First Joyologist,  said “onya bike sonny “ that he would indeed do just that?  😊

Yes,  Pats son Ben Armitstead,  is riding for Smiling for Smiddy to raise funds for the Mater Hospital Cancer Research.  A group of riders are biking 1600K from Townsville to Brisbane in an epic 8 day event with each rider having committed to raise $5000.

The ride is on from 23rd to 31st August and is an event begun in honour of Adam Smiddy, who passed away to an aggressive cancer aged 26.  That was in 2006 and the first ride generated $24,000.  And this year the goal is to raise $1 million dollars.

Pat says “I am so proud of my son for taking this initiative on and it has prompted me to assist with his fundraising.”  And I have a personal reason because I am a cancer survivor.  I'm 30 years cancer free now, but I still remember the chill of fear when diagnosed.  My son Ben was only 11 at the time and I was terrified  at the prospect of him having to grow up without his mother.

Everyone is affected by cancer whether they suffer from it themselves or someone in their family does.  The statistics are horrific eg 8 people die per day from breast cancer alone.

To support my son I have created an event, called How to be happy, healthy and in harmony!  My aim is to bring some joy where it appears there is none,  My vision is to help those recovering or moving through illness or trauma by learning,  laughing and being inspired.

Myself and 2 other speakers, Marsha Schults and Leanne Blaney are contributing our time and we are going to

• Bring some joy back into peoples lives
• Explore how we can heal ourselves
• create calm in a world of uncertainty

·       I will show how I began teaching about healing with humour and share some highlights of my tour with Patch Adams.

·       Marsha Schults is going to share her journey back from MS and the integrated approach that enabled her to transform her health.

·       Leanne Blaney will show you that Work Life Balance is a misnomer and that true balance comes from within.

Together we’ve forged this triangle of wellbeing designed to support men and women as they emerge from ill health, difficult times, or recover from grief and loss.
