Airwallex is pleased to announce that it is expanding its management team with the addition of Jeanette K. Chan, who will join the company as Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel. Prior to Airwallex, Jeanette has been Managing Partner and Head of the Asia Communications and Technology Practice at leading international law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where she has worked for more than 30 years.

Jeanette brings over 30 years of legal experience to the role, which will see her leading Airwallex’s compliance and legal teams to support the company’s continued global expansion and new product development.

Corinna Yu, Paul Weiss counsel, will also be joining alongside Jeanette as Legal Director. Having spent more than 20 years at Paul Weiss, Corinna brings deep expertise in mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments and foreign direct investments into China.

Jack Zhang, Co-Founder and CEO of Airwallex, said: “We are thrilled to have Jeanette join Airwallex to support our global expansion. She brings a wealth of experience and proven track record of excellence in financial and legal circles. Her expertise and pioneering leadership will be crucial in leading our business into its next stage of growth.”

“I’m delighted to be joining Airwallex, which over the past four years has transformed itself from a start-up to a leading global challenger in cross-border payments. I look forward to working with Jack and the other leaders of the business to shape and drive Airwallex’s global expansion,” Jeanette said.

Jeanette joined Paul Weiss in 1986 and initially worked in its Hong Kong, New York, Beijing and Shanghai offices. In 1992, she relocated to Hong Kong to take on the position of APAC senior international legal adviser at Cable & Wireless and in 1994, she re-joined Paul Weiss as a leader in the firm’s regional practice.

Jeanette has extensive experience representing multinational and regional corporations, financial institutions, private equity funds and sponsors in their investments and operations in the region. She has been recognised as one of the world’s leading PRC law practitioners by influential business and legal organisations and publications, particularly in the communications, media and technology industries. These recognitions include Chambers Asia-Pacific, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, Asian Legal Business, and Who’s Who Legal.

Jeanette is a member of the New York Bar. She is also admitted to practice law in Canada and Hong Kong and is a non-practicing solicitor of England and Wales.
