Roy Hill Water Treatment Project Achieves Practical Completion

Announcement posted by Osmoflo Water Management Pty Ltd 02 Aug 2019

Osmoflo was recently presented with the ‘Practical Completion Certificate’ for the successful delivery of a major desalination plant for Roy Hill Iron Ore Pty Ltd.

Osmoflo signed the contract on the 9th February 2018, against tough international competition, and after an extensive process, the company was ultimately successful by providing the best overall value to their client and demonstrating the capability to deliver the project as a whole.

Roy Hill is a world-class iron ore mining, rail and port operation located approximately 340km south east of Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. With its integrated facilities, Roy Hill has the capacity to deliver 55Mt per annum of iron ore, with plans to increase to 60Mt. “Osmoflo has delivered an important piece of infrastructure that will support the ongoing sustainability of our mining operation.  Roy Hill has also engaged Osmoflo to maintain and operate the plant which demonstrates Osmoflo’s end to end capability.” said Roy Hill Project Director Paul Laybourne.

The EPC contract involved the delivery of a desalination and blended water treatment plant at the Roy Hill mine site with capacity up to 20 MLD. The plant treats bore water to produce treated water that is suitable for use by Roy Hill’s processing plant. Following the completion of the plant’s construction, Osmoflo will provide the subsequent operational, maintenance and whole-of-life asset management of the plant for the life of the mine.

Throughout this process, Osmoflo has demonstrated its continued strength and world class expertise as a leading water technology provider. It also illustrates Osmoflo’s ability to provide the highest levels of plant reliability and availability for ‘mission critical’ water treatment facilities, no matter how remote or isolated the location.

Given the remote location and logistical challenges faced on this project, we are pleased to have successfully delivered this project to a high standard and are now fully committed to operate the plant and provide quality process water to the Roy Hill mine.” said Chris Reynolds, General Manager of Projects.

With the invaluable experience gained through the construction phase, Osmoflo is well placed to manage similar challenging opportunities in Australia, and around the globe.”

Osmoflo currently supports the ongoing operation and maintenance of around 80 plants globally. Its operation and maintenance services are underpinned by over 27 years of experience and technological innovations. This includes its proprietary remote monitoring and control system PlantConnect™ that allows Osmoflo engineers to pro-actively manage company or customer owned assets, located anywhere across the world and to provide invaluable 24-7 support to local operational resources. Osmoflo’s management systems have also allowed the company to maintain an excellent track record on occupational health and safety, and environmental management performance, routinely exceeding Industry benchmarks.

Fabrication of the 20 MLD brackish water reverse osmosis plant and associated equipment for Roy Hill took place at Osmoflo’s manufacturing facility in South Australia. The plant was then transported over 3,400km to the Roy Hill site. More than one hundred personnel were utilised around Australia for the combined EPC and operation & maintenance contracts.

As one of the largest plants Osmoflo has delivered to the mining sector to date, coupled with the O&M contract potentially extending to 20+ years, it is a significant success that demonstrates not only the company’s proficiency to provide complete project solutions, but also its ability to provide quality, reliable, long-term operations, maintenance and whole-of-life asset management services in a highly competitive international market.

Carmine Ciccocioppo, Chief Operating Officer, at Osmoflo, said that the company is delighted to have achieved this significant milestone for the Roy Hill mine site, and is looking forward to continuing to build on the strong working relationship with Roy Hill by providing consistent and reliable operations and maintenance services for the next 20 years and beyond.
