Expert-led parasite management roadshow to continue across Victoria after concluding in NSW and QLD

Announcement posted by Virbac Australia Pty Ltd 09 Aug 2019

As part of Virbac Australia’s goal to help improve the future of Australian agriculture, a team of industry experts has spent the past week on the road, advising producers on sustainable tick and worm management.

The animal health company’s Parasite Management Roadshow took place in five key locations across QLD and northern NSW, including Rockhampton, Banana, Kingaroy, Beaudesert and Casino – and as Virbac Australia’s Cattle Product Manager Alisha Mitchell explains, the free seminars were designed to help beef producers understand best practice use of drenching products for tick and worm control.

“These roadshows help our producers to take the necessary steps to safeguard their livestock against some of the country’s most economically damaging parasites,” says Alisha. “We’re thrilled to have been able to host some of the most knowledgeable experts in cattle parasites as they presented invaluable information and explained the latest science around parasite management to cattle producers and vets.”

Virbac Australia Technical Services Manager Dr Matthew Ball led the roadshow, along with local Rockhampton district vet and beef producer Dr Neil Farmer. As Neil explains, “these seminars covered the latest local findings, examined the tick lifecycle and highlighted best practice use of drenching products for tick and worming control. It was great to be able to share our knowledge and help producers and vets take the necessary steps to safeguard their livestock.”

For beef producers in particular, the seminars were a vital source of information on how to take advantage of the best treatment methods and products to help save them hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a year. One of the attendees was Rockhampton producer Kerrod Pierce, who described the event as incredibly useful for keeping up to date with best practices:

“We need more events like this – and it’s really important that producers attend, so that we can continue to benefit. I currently dip my cattle, but today’s speakers have really opened my eyes to what could be done on top of that, so I get a better result for my cattle. I’m definitely going to trial Cydectin Long Acting Injection for cattle and use this new information to be more strategic with my tick prevention management plan.”

With the parasite management roadshow being an important part of how Virbac Australia engages with the community, the Parasite Management Roadshow will continue touring through Victoria next month.
