Children's Book Genre Sees Substantial Growth

Announcement posted by QBD Books 02 Sep 2019

According to recent Nielsen Bookscan data the book industry has seen significant growth (5%) in the children’s book genre.

As a company QBD Books are excited to see the growth in this area.  We believe reading is a timeless form of entertainment, and that the importance of a book to help us learn and understand cannot be underestimated.

As children grow older it’s comforting to know that 75% of parents with children aged 6-17 wish that their child would engage in more page time, and less screen time. This is despite children themselves admitting that they would prefer to read print books over e-books. [1]

Reading aloud to children every day not only creates a shared reading experience with parents, it can enhance cognitive development improving a child’s attention span, listening skills, literacy and numeracy skills.[2]

QBD Books children’s category has also seen year on year growth. Currently it is the most rapidly growing genre of 2019.   A significant part of this uplift can be attributed to the launch of QBD’s Mini Book Collection in sales across children’s books, particularly the 12 books featured in the collection. The most popular? Australian children’s classic Storm Boy.

The full QBD Mini Books collection includes titles ranging from picture books to junior fiction novels. Accompanied by a gorgeous collector’s book shop case it will appeal to children ages 3-12 and lovers of mini collectables everywhere. Each mini book and the collector’s case are 100% recyclable.

There’s something about a miniature. I guess it’s a kind of magic. The surprise of it, like the discovery of a tiny jewel that’s precious and unique and instantly endearing.” – Anna Feinberg, author of the Tashi series.
