InFocus Sets Video Quality Benchmark With Debut of High Definition Home Cinema Projector

Announcement posted by InFocus 07 Nov 2002

Projection leader leverages technology integration experience and DLP(tm) expertise to deliver industry's best and brightest video quality
InFocus(r) Corporation (Nasdaq: INFS) (OSE:IFC), the worldwide leader in digital projection, today introduced the newest addition to its home entertainment projector series: the InFocus ScreenPlay 7200. Designed to deliver the best home cinema video experience in its class, the ScreenPlay 7200 incorporates the industry's highest performing display technologies with InFocus' own award-winning platform.

The ScreenPlay 7200 is a true 720p high-definition front projector that provides out-of-the-box calibrated home cinema quality, simplifying the installation process. InFocus' innovative engineering of industry-leading display technologies, including Texas Instruments' Mustang/HD2 DLP technology, Faroudja(tm) DCDi FLI2300 video processing technology and Carl Zeiss(tm) optics that are designed for the ScreenPlay 7200, provides a premium video quality experience. With eight video inputs, the ScreenPlay 7200 allows users to experience a broad range of entertainment sources, including digital television (HDTV) and DVD viewing.

"According to the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA), residential systems and custom installation is the fastest growing segment in the consumer electronics industry. The ScreenPlay 7200 combines InFocus' integration expertise and the industry's latest technologies to create a best-in-class product for this growing market," said Scott Hix, vice president and general manager of Business Development, InFocus Corporation. "InFocus has created a breakthrough product ? providing installers and home theatre aficionados with premium video performance at a competitive home cinema price."

As testament to this, the ScreenPlay 7200 has been awarded The CEDIA 2002 Manufacturer's Excellence Award for Best Video Product. To determine winners, CEDIA judges examined rear-projection televisions, plasma screens, and projectors to determine the best in consumer home video products. In its first year at the show, InFocus beat finalists to claim the award, judged on custom installation, performance, ease of use and value for money.

Along with the ScreenPlay 7200, the company's first ScreenPlay projector launched last year; the ScreenPlay 110 was recognised as a finalist in the Best Video Product category. This is the third award that the InFocus Home Entertainment division has won in 2002. Earlier this year the ScreenPlay 110 won both the PC World 'World Class Award' and 'Audio Video Interiors Excellence in Design Award.'

The ScreenPlay 7200 sets the benchmark for home cinema front projection through the following key benefits designed to produce an image exactly as a movie director intended:
* High-resolution imagery ? True high definition (native 1280 x 720) provided by Texas Instrument's new Mustang/HD2 DLP technology
* Film-like contrast ? 1400:1 contrast ratio delivers the deepest blacks and superior scene detail
* Industry's brightest image ? 1,000 lumens, with dual light output modes for varied lighting conditions and viewing preferences
* Cinema quality colour reproduction ? Calibrated to D65 colour master standards to provide amazing colour accuracy from natural flesh tones to vibrant reds, greens and blues, measured by cinematic standards
* Installation-friendly design ? Calibrated for cinema-ready installation with low light pollution cabinet and maximum connectivity

To improve the ScreenPlay 7200's cinematic experience, the projector includes a six-segment colour wheel that enhances high-grade picture quality and allows incredibly accurate colour reproduction. The ScreenPlay 7200 is designed for discerning home cinema enthusiasts and residential systems professionals, and is equipped for flexible installation and optimal video quality performance.
