EQUANT WINS RIO TINTO CONTRACT FOR IP VPN AND MESSAGING SERVICE

Multi-million dollar agreement will link Rio Tinto employees in more than 40 countries via resilient, high-quality network
Equant (NYSE: ENT) (Euronext Paris: EQU), a recognized industry leader in global data and IP services for multinational businesses, has signed a multi-million dollar agreement to provide IP VPN and managed messaging services to Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) (LSE:RIO.L), one of the worlds largest mining groups.

The IP VPN network links Rio Tintos business units and provides global connectivity to employees in more than 40 countries.

The IP VPN technology, on which the Equant solution is based, offers Rio Tinto unique capabilities, including:

The provision of a single high-speed link to each connected site that can support data, voice and video applications;
The ability to prioritize applications and traffic types in accordance with business requirements; and
Flexibility and scalability in the network that allows rapid adaptation to the needs of a dynamic business environment.

As part of the messaging agreement, Equant will provide Equant Managed Microsoft Exchange utilizing two Equant hosted hub sites and 36 remote servers at Rio Tinto business units. The service offers Rio Tinto the necessary redundancy and speed to provide reliable e-mail services to its employees worldwide.
