Announcement posted by Maxtor 12 Feb 2002

New 120GB model lets businesses and home users store data without opening their PCs
Maxtor has announced it has tripled the storage capacity for its Personal Storage 3000LE external hard disk drive family with the universal serial bus (USB) 2.0 interface. The new 120Gigabyte (GB) model features the industrys highest capacity for USB 2.0 storage devices and lets creative professionals, business and home users add additional storage without opening their computers.

With increasing sales of peripherals such as digital cameras, consumers are faced with a greater need for external storage to edit and store their images, said Craig Davis, national sales manager, Maxtor Australia. Combining the high bandwidth and fast performance of USB 2.0, the Personal Storage 120GB 3000LE will complement a customers total experience.

The Personal Storage 3000LE family, which also includes a 40GB model, is ideal for backing up or archiving large files such as digital photos, audio clips, graphics, home videos and electronic games. The USB interface lets users transport large files between multiple systems.

USB 2.0 is easy to connect with virtually all-existing USB ports and is backward compatible with USB 1.1. To help users upgrade previous-generation desktop and laptop computers and PCs to USB 2.0 performance, Maxtor offers a USB 2.0 PCI Adapter Card for $115 that features four external and one internal high speed ports.

The 3000LE provides a good alternative to PC storage upgrades. With three times the capacity, it also provides better value for storage-intensive applications.

Availability and pricing
The 120GB Personal Storage 3000LE is available in April 2002 through Digiland and Marketing Results, as well as Harvey Norman, Dick Smith Powerhouse and Harris Technology nationally. It has a recommended retail price of $899. The 40GB Personal Storage model has a recommended retail price of $545.
