Announcement posted by Cappfinity 24 Oct 2019
Schneider Electric has transformed its approach to early careers talent recruitment with an innovative strengths-based assessment programme delivered in partnership with Cappfinity, global leader in authentic assessment. The market-leading energy management business has already started to see an impact with more than 60 graduates and interns offered positions in the short period since launch.
The change was driven by the realisation that traditional aptitude testing was not aligned with other more progressive employee programs within Schneider Electric centred around Strengths, Well-Being and Positive Psychology in the work environment. Overly structured assessment methods did not give candidates the opportunity to relax and reveal their best selves. Which in turn did not give Schneider Electric enough meaningful data around cultural and behavioural fit for selection.
“After reviewing our existing practices and results, we realised in order to truly understand candidates’ ability, cultural fit and potential we needed to look beyond academic results and experience,” said Suzanna Dunstan, Talent Acquisition Lead.
Schneider Electric made the decision after experiencing the benefits of Cappfinity’s Strengths Profile solution, with the forward-thinking company using the online assessment product to support employee wellbeing and development since 2013.
By providing insight into employee’s realised and unrealised strengths, learned behaviours and weaknesses, managers can better support their professional growth and employees are more engaged and productive. The implementation of Cappfinity’s strengths-based online assessment and assessment centres was a natural next step to providing a holistic employee experience.
By presenting applicants with scenarios that are realistic to working life at Schneider Electric, candidates can demonstrate skills that couldn’t be captured in their CV or through traditional assessment. Strengths-based assessment centres featuring workshops allow candidates to be themselves, show the real value they could bring to the company and gain valuable personal insights.
“Cappfinity’s strength-based assessment represents a step change in the way we recruit and manage early career talent. The programme has brought a whole new level of authenticity to our recruitment process. We weaved the Strengths principles all the way through the attraction, selection and onboarding process so the early career candidates understand how integral it is to our ethos and it also helps them draw upon their strengths to be their best selves during the assessment centres and beyond. We get to the core of who candidates really are, what makes them tick, how they would operate in the Schneider Electric working environment and relate to their colleagues,” said Dunstan. “In return they gain a realistic understanding of our vision, values, expectations and culture – it’s a powerful and fun two-way engagement”.
It was important to Schneider Electric to reflect their Employee Value Proposition – Meaningful, Inclusive and Empowered, at all stages of engagement with the candidates. This process highlighted to the candidates meaningful work that can be achieved at Schneider Electric, an inclusive environment that values differences and believes in equal opportunity, and ensuring they feel empowered to use their judgement to foster innovation.
Riley Thiedecke, a Schneider Electric candidate, said of his experience, “Learning about strengths was really interesting, especially when we came together in a team and compared. It was interesting to see how we could use those strengths to work better as a team and understand how different people work.”
Commenting on the partnership, Lucy Zucker, Head of Client Success at Cappfinity said:“It has been great to see the results of Cappfinity’s partnership with Schneider Electric and how they have embraced strengths-based assessment and positive psychology in their recruitment processes. We look forward to seeing our partnership grow and develop.”
Cappfinity launched operations in Australia in 2018 with the opening of its Sydney office. For more than fourteen years its parent company, Capp, has been combining strengths expertise, data science, technology and human experience to enable organisations like Microsoft, Barclays and Grant Thornton Australia to better hire, develop and transform talent.
