Fujitsu launches INTERSTAGE middleware into Australian market

Announcement posted by Fujitsu Australia Limited 19 Apr 2002

Proven end-to-end integration solution to address enterprise needs for
fast, reliable delivery of Web services
Fujitsu Australia announced today the release of its INTERSTAGE middleware to the Australian marketplace, seeking to meet the growing demand from enterprises for application integration solutions to help them link disparate corporate systems, interface legacy systems with state-of-the-art application packages, and provide a sound platform for new Web services solutions.

An end-to-end solution for enterprise application integration and Web service delivery, INTERSTAGE comprises an application server, integration server, portal server, and advanced application level security and load balancing tools.

Already proven in the competitive Japanese market where it holds the dominant position, INTERSTAGE is now being launched in Australia as part of a strategic push by Fujitsu to increase its share of the global EAI opportunity.

Fujitsu Australias, General Manager Marketing, Terry Carter said Fujitsu has already sold over 16,000 licences overseas and anticipates keen interest from Australian businesses seeking to gain the benefits of application integration as well as improve the introduction of Web-based services.

The powerful integration capabilities of this product offering, backed by Fujitsus comprehensive service offerings, makes INTERSTAGE a compelling end-to-end solution for enterprise customers, he said.

INTERSTAGE addresses their need for a cost-effective way to quickly and reliably deliver key products and services online while retaining and extending their legacy investments.

In Japan, organisations such as Matsushita Electric Works Ltd, the Tokyo Stock Exchange Inc and Japan Net Bank rely on INTERSTAGE for their middleware and software integration requirements. Were confident well achieve a similar penetration in Australia, Mr Carter said.

Strong growth in the EAI market is being fuelled by the push to compete online, with additional drivers being the need to integrate disparate databases, or to deal with acquisition integration issues.

Dr Kevin McIsaac, Program Director, Server Infrastructure Strategies with META Group, said the vendors most likely to succeed in the EAI space would be those offering not only a complete set of middleware, but also backing it with expert design and implementation services.

Enterprise Application Integration is a complex area requiring a high degree of expertise and experience, he said.

The successful long-term players will either have the skills themselves to help customers implement their technology, or will have a very good partner network to provide that capability on their behalf. They will also need to be of a sufficient size and depth to afford the substantial investment required to build themselves into this space, said Dr McIsaac.

Fujitsu's substantial size, established position in the systems integration space, expert consulting capabilities, and global resources ensure it is well placed to become one of the dominant players in this market sector.

The launch of INTERSTAGE into this market is part of Fujitsus commitment to enhance our
end-to-end full service capability as a single line of responsibility supplier to meet the needs of enterprise customers, said Mr Carter.

As part of this announcement, we have established a new business unit focused on EAI solutions and capabilities and provided extensive training in this technology for relevant customer-facing staff. We will also work very closely with our Solutions and Services divisions, together with selected partners, to offer customers a total solution to meet their needs.
