Announcement posted by The Bell Tower 04 Feb 2020

Finding unique Valentine’s gifts that your loved one will treasure

Finding unique Valentine’s gifts that your loved one will treasure can be rather difficult – there’s only so many times you can give roses and dinners out as gifts. We’ve done the hard work and put together a great little list of unique gifts for your loved one this Valentine’s Day.

Plated Sixpence Crystal Watch

The Perth Mint has a luxury and unique gift item this year, with a Sixpence Crystal Watch featuring a genuine Sixpence coin and crystal embellishments. Even better is that these watches can be customised with specific year dates from 1910 – 1963. There are some exclusions in the date, but this is a lovely way to mark a special occasion.

Plan a Food Lovers Journey

If you and your loved one are both foodies, why not plan a road trip down the coast from Perth to south west WA? Stop and explore some of the best restaurants and local producers and artisans in Eagle Bay, Gracetown, Margaret River, Pemberton and Denmark. A great way to enjoy a weekend out of the city.

Gaze at the Stars

There are very few things that beat staring at the stars on a romantic night out. Book your seats and head along to the Scitech Planetarium and enjoy a live tour of the night sky. Dome Date Night includes entry and a drink on arrival and lets you marvel at the universe.

Perth Observatory is also running a Valentine’s Night Tour where you can look through a range of telescopes and go on a tour of the night sky.

Pearl Harvesting

For something completely different this Valentine’s Day, head to Willie Creek Pearls on Elizabeth Quay and harvest your own pearl. Enjoy a glass of Margaret River sparkling and taste the rare delicacy that is pearl meat. After being taken on a journey from historic to modern pearling practices, you’ll get the chance to harvest your own pearl straight from its oyster. The value of the pearl is unknown until harvest, so you could end up with a pearl valued anywhere from $500 - $5000. You can then have your pearl made into a beautiful piece of jewellery.

Proposal with a View

If you’ve got plans to propose to your loved one this Valentine’s Day, do it in style with magnificent views of the Swan River and city as your backdrop. Head up to the Observation Deck on Level 6, enjoy the views of the Swan River, city and the Darling Range and then pop the question. Pop a gold coin in the 26 bell Carillon and choose from a variety of tunes.

There is one rather unique Valentines gift that is steeped in history that is sure to be well received. And The Bell Tower is the place to get it.

Love Locks

There’s a good chance you’ve heard of love locks – a padlock that has the initials of two people who love each other scratched, etched or engraved, and then attached to a significant landmark. The keys are then often thrown into the river below (if attached to a bridge) or nearby.

Other couples prefer to lock their love to a favourite place – theirs may be the only love lock on a fence in the middle of suburbia, but you can bet the location means something special to a couple in love.

The tradition of the love lock dates back several centuries and believed to have originated in China, however the most well-known historical record was in Serbia. It was said a young woman died of a broken heart when her loved one changed his mind and broke of their engagement, and then married another woman. Before their break-up, the couple were said to have regularly met on a bridge, and it is on this bridge that the young local girls began attaching padlocks bearing their name and the name of their loved one.

From there, the tradition has spread throughout the world including on the Ponte Milvio Bridge in Italy, the Vecch Bridge in Florence, the Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne and the Canadian Wild Pacific Trail.

But you don’t need to go overseas to be able to place your love lock.  This Valentine’s Day you could be clipping your own love lock in Perth, https://www.thebelltower.com.au/love-locks-perth/. These heart shaped love locks are inscribed with your names and your chosen date. You can then enter The Bell Tower and place your love lock on our chain, or in a location you love.

Love locks are a great way to lock in and symbolise your love this Valentine’s Day.
