ESPORTS AND K-POP GET SUPA-CHARGED AT HOTA

Announcement posted by M10 Collective 21 Feb 2020

As esports events take the world by storm, HOTA is gearing up to host its first Pop & Play event on March 15, featuring a big day out of gaming, Asia pop artists, music, food and film.
Entirely free to the public, Pop & Play is a family friendly event and the first of its kind for the Gold Coast.

This year, HOTA has also teamed up with major comic con event, Supanova, making Pop & Play a part of their three-day event program.

Across the festival-style day, audiences can engage with elite esport personalities and gamers, including QO of Team Oracle, Tequila of the all-female identifying team, Supa-Stellar, and Gaku Space the voice actor of Genji of Overwatch.

There will be freeplay stations set up as part of the program, where patrons are invited to put on their game-face and have a go at Nintendo games, including Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros and Ultimate Chicken Horse.

On HOTA’s Outdoor Stage, a colourful pop program will keep the energy buzzing with Filipino-Australian alternative pop singer, Chela, Joel Ma AKA Joelistics and DJ producer, Yeo, from Asia Pop Time Machine, and hosted by The Lyrical from popular gaming podcast, Game Train.

Between the headliner sets, audiences can catch a series of K-Pop, hip-hop and anime dance showcases, stroll through the Asian food markets and load up on dumplings, ramen, bubble tea and more, or check out the artisan stalls and create a DIY cosplay costume.

HOTA CEO, Criena Gehrke, said this supercharged event is the first of its kind for the Gold Coast and a great free event celebrating all things eGames and Asia pop culture.

“We’ve got a fantastic program lined-up for Pop & Play including elite esport gamers and some of the most colourful, upbeat K-Pop and Asian music artists on the scene performing live,” she said.

“Not to mention the food trucks, dance showcases, Cosplay costume making workshops and more.”

Pop & Play is free to the public and will take place at the Outdoor Stage at HOTA, Home of the Arts, on Sunday 15th March from 12.30pm.
