Riding 20,000km to explore Australia and its spiritual temperature

New reality TV series
Nick and Yvette Wynne had only held their motorcycle licences less than 5 years before they took on a 20,000km, around Australia trip in just three months – on a pair of Ducati 1200cc multistradas.

Needing a break from the cocoon of city life, never could they have imagined the adventures they would encounter as they circumnavigated Australia and dug deep into its heart over three months in 2017.

Not people to do things by halves, Nick the Emergency doctor and Yvette, a not-for-profit manager, had a crack at filming their journey and the result is a unique 12 part reality television series – Holy Rollin’ Downunder – now screening on the Australian Christian Channel (ACCTV), Fridays, 7pm.

“It was part escape and part adventure, and the main thing was that we were doing it together. How many married couples of more than 30 years have motorbiked around Australia on matching Ducatis?” said Nick. “And it was just as well considering we were nearly cooked alive riding across Cape Leveque in 48C heat, and got hypothermia while crossing the Blue Mountains – we wouldn’t have made it on our own.”

“But it wasn’t just about the scenery or excitement,” said Yvette. “We wanted to use the trip to inspire others to see this great nation of ours and to have a go at life, to have a go at faith.

“We also had an inkling of the incredible richness of the Australian people in all their diversity across this remarkable country. We wanted to find out more, to see for ourselves and hear the stories – we weren’t disappointed!”

Holy Rollin’ – Downunder not only features some amazing rides and breathtaking scenery, but gets up close and personal with many unique Aussie characters, often in remote corners of Australia – hearing of their hopes, dreams, tragedy and faith.

The series began on ACCTV on March 6, 2020 and runs every Friday at 7pm for 12, 30- minute episodes (and is repeated 4.30am Sundays). It is also available to rent or buy through Nick and Yvette’s website – motorcylemissionaries.com.au. Find them also on Instagram @motorcyclemissionaries and on Facebook - Motorcycle Missionaries.
