Digital agency King Kong hires digital projects lead

Announcement posted by King Kong 16 Apr 2020

Independently owned digital marketing agency King Kong hires Blake Sterling as Head of Digital Projects

Digital marketing agency King Kong is bucking the industry trend in response to the COVID-19 pandemic with a new senior hire, Blake Sterling, who will lead the agency’s digital projects into a new phase of growth.

As head of digital projects, Blake will be tasked with revenue growth, client acquisition and client retention, along with hitting agency KPIs around what a successful client campaign should look like.

He will be working with clients across the King Kong portfolio who are currently or plan to undertake a web project with the agency.

Blake has been a direct response copywriter Port Phillip Publishing, the Australian outpost of US publisher Agora, for the past six years. Prior to that, he held a marketing manager role at a financial education company.

Sabri Suby, founder of King Kong, said: “Blake is a killer hire, with a wide range of past experience to bring to the table. He’s also a savvy copywriter and was the highest-performing copywriter in Agora Australia.

On the current COVID-19 crisis, he added: “I’m always on the hunt for good talent. A lot of these crises create opportunities too, and there are certain positions that you can’t let pass you by.

“I take a contrarian view to most in terms of cutting costs during an economic contraction. You don’t want to cut down on anything that will help bring in more money during this time, and that includes staff, advertising, and PR.

“When the crisis does blow over, we’re going to be in a lot stronger position from being able to secure talent like Blake.”

Blake will report into Jessica Delahunty, King Kong’s general manager, and will have five members of staff working under him.

On his appointment, Blake said: “I wanted to move into an environment where I could ply my copy skills across multiple markets. King Kong was the perfect fit. Not only am I working on fresh projects every single day, but I’m helping everyday businesses attract floods of new leads and rocket revenues to new heights. It’s the ability to help businesses grow super-fast that really gets my blood-pumping about working at King Kong.”

King Kong has over 65 employees operating out of offices in South Yarra and Melbourne. The agency works with major clients nationally and internationally including Raine & Horne, Slater + Gordon, Aussie Home Loans, The Good Guys, the Sydney Swans, F45, Real Insurance, The Jim’s Group, KX Pilates and First National among many others. It offers services including SEO, CRO, PPC, Facebook advertising, web design and landing pages.
