HOTA ANNOUNCES CINEMA PROGRAM AHEAD OF OPENING WEEKEND

Announcement posted by HOTA 05 Jun 2020

Gold Coasters are in for a treat this weekend, with HOTA re-opening its cinema doors to the public and today announcing its thematic program sure to entice all aficionados.
With 12 sessions per day, movie-goers can expect to see film titles that may have been missed ahead of venue shutdowns taking place, coined The Remembered Series.

HOTA CEO, Criena Gehrke, said the move is a positive step in the right direction for the entertainment and arts community.

“Our cinema reels are ready to screen the films that were on sale as the world fell silent. They deserve to be seen and enjoyed, and we look forward to HOTA being the first to show them on the big screen since re-opening,” she said.

“We will be turning off the ghost light and have the popcorn ready to offer the movie-going community a quintessential social experience that I know many have missed.”

Films showing from Saturday 6th to Wednesday 10th June include, The Trip to Greece (M), starring funnymen Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, who travel from Troy to Ithaca following in the footsteps of Odysseus, exploring restaurants, hotels and other famous landmarks.

Hearts and Bones (M) - the story of an unlikely friendship that grows between a traumatised war photographer and a Sudanese refugee, when they discover a link that intertwines their pasts.

An intimate and affecting period drama about freedom – Portrait of a Lady on Fire (M) - explores love and desire that follows the journey of Marianne, a young painter in 18th Century France.

The Current War (M) tells the epic story of three brilliant visionaries set off in a charged battle for the future, through cutthroat competition that literally lit up the modern world.

A boy’s spark of intelligence risks being lost under the pressures of the conflict between his Arrernte upbringing and western education in the film, In My Blood It Runs (M).

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture, Parasite (MA15+) is the black comedy that follows the complicated relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.

While venue restrictions and capacity numbers limit the number of people attending to 20 per screening, the team at HOTA are committed to bringing some normality back to the life of Gold Coasters.

Strict social distancing measures will still apply, with ticket holders allocated seats for each screening.

Audiences are encouraged to get in quick as tickets are on sale now and expected to sell out fast.
