#BlackLivesMatter in Australia

Announcement posted by Reconciliation NSW 12 Jun 2020

Reconciliation NSW calls for action to address inequality

#BlackLivesMatter

Racism is a very real and present threat to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other people of colour and from CALD backgrounds in Australia.

Unless racism is addressed, First Nations Australians will continue to suffer injustice and systemic oppression which have significantly and negatively impacted the health and wellbeing of these communities.

“The #BlackLivesMatter movement is resonating with Australians from all walks of life because they know that racism is at the root of so much of the inequity which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities experience.” said Professor Lindon Coombes, Chair of Reconciliation NSW.

This country needs to heal so that we can move forward.
The #UluruStatement offers a healing process through truth telling.

We call on Australia’s leaders to start working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations to conduct a truth telling process, which 60 other countries around the world have already undertaken in order to move their countries forward.
