“Electronic music artist Jamie Lee Wilson (aka JVMIE) watched the pandemic loom over her LA-based life. After much deliberation, and seeing lines down the block from local gun stores, she returned to Australia. Where some may have found the experience overwhelming, for Jamie it led to the creation of an entire album, most of which was written and recorded during her time in quarantine.

With the help of a mini-grant from Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast, Jamie was able to collaborate with musical counterparts on the other side of the world.” - Patricia Karvelas on The Drawing Room, ABC Radio National

After losing all foreseeable gigs and sessions due to the coronavirus pandemic, JVMIE made the difficult decision to return to the Gold Coast from Los Angeles where she’s been working as a musician and face 2 weeks in hotel quarantine. On the day Jamie was set to fly out of LA, she came across the Rage Against the Virus grant funded by HOTA Gold Coast and it sparked some inspiration.

“I was inspired to use my quarantine time creatively and work on an album of songs that not only acknowledges the current tension in the world, but also inspires a sense of hope.”

While in hotel isolation JVMIE has been collaborating remotely with LA based film composer, Lionel Cohen fusing elements of electronic music with cinematic textures.

No stranger to electronic music, Gold Coast born and bred JVMIE has collaborated with Grammy winning DJ's around the world, reached #2 on the US Billboard Dance Club Chart, #3 on the Aria Club Charts and had releases on labels from Universal to Spinnin Records. She's supported the likes of David Guetta, Kelly Rowland and Salt-N-Pepa and performed at clubs and festivals the world over.

Cohen who just finished scoring "Mob Town”, starring David Arquette and "First We Take Brooklyn" starring Harvey Keitel met the Aussie songstress at a film screening in Los Angeles last year. The pair discussed working together but it wasn’t until the Coronavirus hit Los Angeles, making in person sessions impossible, that the pair began creating this project.

Songs like “We Will Rise Again” inspired by Australia’s enduring spirit in the face of bushfires, floods and now COVID19. “Follow You Down”, written in a darker moment, is set in a kind of war zone.
“Day by day there was increasingly depressing news. I didn’t know what to believe or whether to stay or go. It’s in times like these that being so far away from family is very isolating”.

When forced into quarantine everything had to be created remotely; writing, recording, album covers and music videos. That can involve some serious ‘outside the box’ creativity, at one point even milk was involved...

“For the In The Deep End music video, I spent days shooting and editing 2 completely different concepts that just didn’t seem to work. I asked my mum to help out with a photo concept and pour milk into the bath for this shot, she thought it was stupid idea so she poured it over my head laughing about how it was going to be a great story to tell her friends. It ended up being the album cover for In The Deep End. I used the photo as inspiration for the music video and it came together really easily...3rd time lucky!”

The album will be released as a series of singles
