Why Australians Love the 2020 Ford F-150 Pickup

Why Australians Love the 2020 Ford F-150 Pickup

It’s all about the rugged outdoor lifestyle with a dash of self-sufficiency and a penchant for independence. Aussies and Americans are on the same page when it comes to their love of tough utes that cruise the open road effortlessly despite towing a boat trailer, jet ski, or spacious caravan.

It’s no wonder then that sales of American pickups continue to rise in Australia. Of course, they need to be converted for Aussie driving conditions and Federal Regulations – most notably, the switch from left-hand-drive to right. We spoke to Anne Anderson, co-owner of Maracoonda Automotive in Queensland, a business that imports and converts American heavyweights, to find out how and why the much-talked-about 2020 Ford F-150 pickup is winning over so many Australian motorists.

No Longer Just Workhorses

The Aussie national character may be rugged and ready for anything, but it turns out Australians like luxury as much as any American does – especially when they’re on the road. There’s still demand for working trucks with standard cabs and a big load bed, but there has been a sharp rise in demand for four-door vehicles which, though they have a shorter bed, are absolutely family-friendly.

“There’s no denying that our customers are keen on a luxury interior, and the 2020 Ford F-150 delivers on that,” says Anderson. “There are even extras that they can specify: a sunroof to boost the feeling of open-road freedom, or massaging seats for those long cross-country treks. If one thinks about the cabs of the most luxury sedans available a few years ago, those features are present in the 2020 Ford F-150. Over and above that, there’s loads of storage space – once again, catering to families and their on-the-go needs.”

“That Engine is a Goer”

There are more choices to the Ford F-150 than just the extras. The heart of the machine, its engine, also leaves room for personal choice. “There are several engine options available and the choice depends on what you want to do with the vehicle,” says Anderson. “We especially like the powerful 3.0 litre diesel with its 596.5Nm (440 lb-ft) of torque coupled with the automatic ten-speed gearbox we see on most of the F-150s.”

What’s New: 2020 Ford F-150s

The F-150 models have been around for a while, and Anderson says the 2020 upgrade offers a few refinements, but is still, at heart, the F-150 its fans have come to love..

The Lariat models now have the advanced driver-assistance features that were previously optional extras as standard.. There are also some new paint finishes for the Lariats which we think are pretty good-looking,” says Anderson.

Anderson tells us that across the board, the Ford F-150s and F250s are among the most highly-rated pickups on the road for safety. Safety-oriented features include the automatic pedestrian detection and emergency braking system, lane departure warning systems and lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control. All in all, a good choice for those long trips when driver fatigue creeps in and reaction times might be lagging.

That’s why so many Australians are finding the ideal motoring match in the Ford F-150.”
