Human Connection Project Announces Inaugural Global Movement

Matching the distance to lives lost to suicide every year – 800,000km - in just 7 days.

Brisbane, QLDHuman Connection Project, a not-for-profit social enterprise working to promote learning and advocacy for proactive mental health solutions, has announced the inaugural launch of The Global Movement initiative, a global expression of how human connection can change the world.

“Our aim is to shine a light on the power of a community to help those who are most vulnerable and suffering due to isolation and poor mental health,” said Matt Boyce, Founder and Managing Director of the Human Connection Project Foundation.

According to the World Health Organisation, we lost 800,000 lives to suicide in 2019. Every year these numbers are going up and for every death there are an estimated 10-25 attempts. To combat this, The Global Movement event will bring participants together from around the world, to walk, run, roll or swim with a mate in an combined effort to accumulate 800,000km of movement– one kilometre for every life lost – and in the process build stronger human connections in a proactive fight to prevent mental illness and suicide.

The event will run over 7 days, with the action commencing on World Mental Health Day – Sunday, 10 October, and concluding with a major event in Brisbane on Saturday, 17 October.

·       Those interested in participating in the event can register through the website from 15 September.

·       An app to track wellness, distance and fundraising achievements as well as more exclusive content will be downloadable from 1 October.
