Melbourne-Based Female Festival Tackles Mental Health in Lockdown!

However, one Victorian festival founder believes that it is possible to find connection and sense of togetherness even during the strictest of lockdowns. Lauren Woodman has taken her Seven Sisters woman’s festival entirely online for 2020, in an attempt to solve some of the worst symptoms of lockdown. She firmly believes that when you can’t go out, go in. 

Seven Sisters Festival is a women’s only empowerment festival, based in both Mornington and Shepparton shire, which draws in thousands of women from all over Australia for a 3-day and 3-night celebration of women. From its original gathering in 2012 of 350 women, the event has grown to thousands becoming the largest women’s only festival in the world and a mecca for women’s wellbeing and self-development.

Created by a 23-year-old Osteopathic Doctor, was designed for all those who identify as women and is run by an all women’s team of over 150 events contractors and professionals. The Festival supports a total of 500 business & sole traders including presenters, teachers, health professionals, coaches, therapists, speakers, musicians, market stallholders, artists, sound techs and event staff, all of which have been severely debilitated by the ban of events. 

The previous festival ran last March 12-14th 2020, concluding just the day before the Australian wide ban on events took place, making it one of the last Festivals to run in Victoria. There were no reported cases of COVID-19.

The event itself hosts over 120+ market stalls, 100+ healers & readers giving sessions by donation and over 140+ workshops and talks on topics from business, health, parenting, meditation, yoga, women’s mysteries, dance, relationships, sound healing and wealth.  

Now the same event plans to run again this October as initially planned with a 100% online program. The Festival will offer over 80+ Live workshops on Zoom, which will be recorded and made available after the event for guests to continue to watch at their own time

Festival Founder, 33-year-old Osteopathic Doctor Lauren Woodman, 

says: “In 2011, I attended my first women’s circle and my life changed forever. The experience changed the way I related to myself and other women. It installed a deep pride in being a woman; in appreciating the mysteries of my body and tuning into my inner knowing. It was a powerful space to see women building each other up– by connecting, supporting and celebrating each other. The experience of gathering with women to share each other’s stories, wisdom and experiences, felt deep, felt tribal and it connected to a core part of me.”

Now she wants to provide women across Victoria with the opportunity to connect with thousands of women across the country over a number of workshops and activities supporting positive mental health practices. 

She also stated, “It is also a time where women need this connection, knowledge and support, now more than ever.”

Dr Lauren Woodman is an Osteopathic Doctor who founded the largest women’s wellness festival – Seven Sisters Festival – when she was just 23 years old.

In 2011, she attended her first women’s circle, which changed her life forever. The experience changed the way she related to myself and other women. It installed a great pride in being a woman; in appreciating the mysteries of her body and tuning into her inner knowing.

What she learnt and experienced moved her to want to make this experience accessible to as many women as possible – to create a place to share women’s wisdom and foster that safety, support, and transformation on a broader level. Consequently, in 2011 the idea for Seven Sisters Festival was born.
