Chanukah 2020 – What’s On

Chanukah (also spelled “Hanukkah”) is an eight-day ‘festival of lights', which begins each year on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev. The festival begins this Thursday 10 December, at sunset! As part of the week-long celebrations, Emanuel Synagogue will hold its flagship event, Chanukah at the Beach, on Thursday 17 December.
Chanukah at the beach is a family-friendly event at which the whole community is welcome. Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic dinner. Emanuel will supply the sufganiyot (donuts)!
When: Thursday 17 December, from 4pm
Where: Parsley Bay Beach, Vaucluse. Horler Avenue, off Parsley Road
Additionally, the Synagogue is proud to support Chanukah Inspirations, a free email journey commencing 10 December. Participants will receive a daily email with teachings about Light and Jewish Mysticism from Rabbi Dr. Orna Triguboff.

Chanukah Kabbalat Shabbat will take place at 6pm on 11 December. Join Rabbi Triguboff and guest musicians. Light the candles, sing, and bring a picnic, at an Eastern Suburbs beach.

Attendees at outdoor events are encouraged to practice social distancing in accordance with NSW Government guidelines.
In addition, Emanuel Synagogue Social Justice Committee is running a Chanukah Drive for the Asylum Seekers Centre. They are collecting urgently needed non-perishable food items and toiletries.
