Victorian Government selects Education Perfect’s innovative science software to provide equitable access to over 170,000 students

Announcement posted by The Big Smoke Media 15 Dec 2020

15 December, 2020: The Department of Education & Training Victoria has taken a major step to ensure teachers and students in government schools have equitable access to high quality, curriculum-aligned science subjects.

Partnering with Education Perfect (EP) the Department of Education & Training Victoria (DET) will provide EP Science, a smart teaching and learning education technology toolkit, to Victorian government secondary schools in 2021-22.

The Victorian Government is making record investment into STEM disciplines and today’s announcement follows the October 2020 appointment by Minister for Education James Merlino, of South East Metropolitan MP and physicist Dr Tien Kieu as the Government’s STEM Education Ambassador, highlighting a strong commitment to STEM education and pathways.

The partnership means that more than 170,000 Year 7 to 10 students will be able to access the award-winning edtech platform.

Included in this partnership, all schools will gain access to:

  1. EP Science content: EP Science Library, a full set of curriculum-aligned lessons, part of a bigger bank of more than 35,000 resources across the full range of subjects for a school. EP’s full suite provides schools an opportunity to consolidate all their resources into one place.
  2. EP Assessments: providing a range of assessment for learning tools to power measurable learning growth.
  3. EP Studio: providing intuitive authoring tools to create engaging and effective lessons for students.
  4. EP Insights: providing a deep understanding of learning progression at a student, class, and cohort level.

EP has established a team of local Science subject specialists to support the Victorian schools.

Alex Burke, EP’s CEO, said the company was thrilled about the new partnership.

“COVID has created new challenges for schools and no more so than in Victoria with extended lockdowns,” he said.

“In this new age, schools require world-class technology partners providing technology that is stable, reliable, secure, and scalable to meet the needs of teachers, students, and parents.

“It is fantastic for EP to be recognised in this tender and we're excited to contribute to Victoria's goal for being a centre of excellence for education.”

Kelly Hollis, EP’s Global Head of Science – and a former teacher – said that instilling a love and respect of learning about Science in all students is a priority.

“As a practicing teacher, I aimed to spark inspiration in my classes to foster a passion and enduring curiosity for all things Science,” she said.

“I have a strong belief that it should be equitable and accessible for every student, despite their academic capabilities.”

Education Perfect’s mission to humanise technology for lifelong learners is key to the future success of the partnership with the schools involved. The intuitive interfaces are regularly praised by teachers and students around the world who use the platform in both remote and blended learning environments.

These interfaces, along with EP’s hands-on support and robust technology were recently tested when schools from all over the world were suddenly thrust into remote learning due to the pandemic. With an increase of student numbers by 100%, there was no technology downtime and EP effectively scaled up customer support.

EP has already scaled up support for the new partnership by so far hiring six local Victorian specialists and refocusing the efforts of existing EP staff.

“My role at EP will now be focused on fulfilling our commitments to the Victorian Government and supporting schools and teachers,” Hollis explained.

“I thoroughly look forward to working with them to bring engaging and inspiring resources to over 170,000 secondary students, helping them to develop an enduring excitement for Science through the use of our amazing platform.”

EP has indicated that they are ready from today to onboard schools to the platform and will continue over the summer holiday break and into first term 2021.
