In pre-season 2021 there have been major injuries to players within elite AFL, NRL, and Rugby teams. The question asked is "why is this now more prevalent than ever"? Well, since the commencement of the fully professional era clubs more and more have, as part of their pre-season programs, full-body, player-to-player contact. As the athlete of today is much bigger and stronger than in years gone by this, on occasion, has caused catastrophic injuries.
This has also been a major problem in American Football even to the point where a New York Times article headlined "Football Practices Pose More Concussion Risk than Games, Study Suggests"
Since the Mobile Virtual Player (MVP) was introduced in the USA there has seen a 48% decrease in concussion injuries at practice. Further due to the decrease in the player to player contact there also has been a similar decrease in major injuries (Knees, Shoulders, Ankles, etc)
The MVP is now here in Australia and has recently been shown to various clubs from each of our major codes. Craig Brown Managing Director said "Whilst Covid has limited our contact with clubs other than in Sydney the thing we can say that our MVP is seen as a game-changer and clubs are thinking carefully on how they can integrate the robot into their whole organisation. They see it as a value add for player welfare including rehab, heightened skill acquisition, and commercial. When they see it the creative juices start to flow"
