Young female entrepreneur shaking things up in NZ Countdown to give New Zealanders healthy, tasty and convenient solutions for dinner.

Announcement posted by Reconnect PR 11 Mar 2021

11th March 2021, Young female entrepreneur, Jordyn Evans, is out to challenge FMCG giants in the dinner convenience, recipe base category, launching her brand, Mingle Seasoning, into 180 Countdown stores.

Jordyn says: ‘‘What’s for Dinner?’ Is the common daily question all households struggle with? We’re all looking for time saving solutions and cooking hacks to make our lives easier. I want to help people realise that healthy can be delicious and that delicious can be quick and easy.”

Driven to bring innovation, health, and ingredient transparency back to the Recipe Base category, Jordyn saw a gap to challenge FMCG giants with something NEW, fun, fresh, and healthy.  She launched 7 of her NO NASTY 30 min meal base flavours into 180 Countdown stores in February. The flavours include Butter Chicken, Curry in a Hurry, Taco Mexican Fiesta, Red Curry, Green Curry, Hearty Stroganoff, and Satay Stir Fry.

“With consumers spending an increased amount of time at home, and out of home eating options in many markets remaining curtailed due to the pandemic restrictions, consumers are looking for products which can simplify and speed up food preparation at home. Further to this people are also more conscious of health now more than ever and in the year to January 2021, natural claims were seen in 63% of stock, sauces and seasoning launches in Australia, the highest of the major APAC markets.

Mingle contains no added sugar, are lower amounts of sodium, has no fillers (flours), no refined vegetable oils or preservatives.

When Jordyn was 25 she was cleaning out her pantry and noticed the nasties in the spice and seasonings. This led her to start to Mingle by selling her car and moving back home to bootstrap her new start-up

Jordyn adds: “Rather than see cooking as a chore, we want people to see it as an opportunity to create together, experiment, learn, nourish one another and connect with our households. Often it takes an extreme event to shake things up, change our behaviours and for us to realign with what’s important to us.  Last year it took me burning out, being disconnected from family and friends and my Nan passing away for me to wake up to what really matters.  This experience woke me up to how easy it is to lose the value of the simple things in life and the daily rituals that bring so much value, including cooking and connecting around a dinner table. “

Whilst Jordyn is still bootstrapping the business and out to challenge the big guys, she attributes her success to her community (80,000 + followers), genuine advocacy from health professionals, the power of word of mouth and creating a flavoursome brand that gets people excited to create the kitchen.

"As a lifestyle medicine physician I believe food is medicine. Our food can either either harm or heal us. Our society has moved away from real food and it is killing us.  At Real Life Medicine, we are passionate about real food and the message that cooking can be quick, delicious and good for you. I recommend Mingle to all my patients. It’s revolutionised my cooking. My whole family love it and we add it to everything! It’s real food. It’s quick. It's delicious and it’s good for you." Dr Lucy Burns- MBBS FRACGP-Lifestyle Medicine Physician- Real Life Medicine

“As a Naturopath + busy mum of two...My kids diet and health is a high priority for me, but timewise, I am limited. Simple, healthy and easy is my go-to. I just love Mingle seasoning, because I don't have to think about it.  I know that if I chop some veggies, and use Mingle to season it, then I am serving my kid's something nutritious which they will actually eat! Mingling is simply a lifesaver for me when the evenings get a little crazy. “Sarah Mc Cready , Naturopath @nourishing_little_bellies
