  • The Adelaide Disability Expo is the first disability event of its kind to be held in South Australia.
  • Australian not-for-profit, Afford, inaugurated the FREE Adelaide Disability Expo to help connect South Australians with essential disability supports and NDIS advice.
  • Afford has expanded disability services across South Australia to address the needs of local communities.

In a first for South Australia, the inaugural Adelaide Disability Expo, presented by Afford, will connect hundreds of locals living with disability and their carers with NDIS providers from across the state providing advice, support and information to maximise NDIS plans and funding.

The Expo is the state’s first dedicated disability event catering to people of all ages and abilities. The event will be held from 10am to 4pm at The Lights Community and Sports Centre on May 13, 2021. Entry to the event is free.

Afford (the Australian Foundation for Disability) is the Australian not-for-profit disability provider staging the expo, in response to local demand for NDIS support and services.

Six per cent of South Australians need assistance in one or more of the three core activity areas of self-care, mobility and communication, due to a long-term health condition, disability, or old age.[1]

Across South Australia, 38,548 people are benefiting from the NDIS and 22,626 people are receiving support for the first time.[2]

Acknowledging the need for greater disability services across the state, Afford has opened Day Program, Short Term Accommodation/Respite, Supported Accommodation and Allied Health services across South Australia and inaugurated the Adelaide Disability Expo to focus on supporting the needs of people with disability.

“As a not-for-profit, we are pleased to stage the first Adelaide Disability Expo for South Australians. The event will give people with disability, their families and carers the chance to connect face to face with providers that offer essential support services so they can get the advice they need to live the life they want under the NDIS,” said Afford Adelaide Customer Care Manager, Brenton Munzer.

“The NDIS has rolled out across South Australia, but there are many people who may be eligible for NDIS but just don’t know where to start. “

“Some people may be hesitant to change providers or aren’t quite sure of the options available. This expo is the first event dedicated to showcasing disability supports, so people living with disability and their carers can get advice and make informed choices about their future NDIS supports.”

“The Adelaide Disability Expo will highlight how Day Programs can help individuals develop their life skills and enjoy accessing the community, avenues for housing support, through to Allied Health options for positive behaviour support.”

“As a not-for-profit disability provider, Afford is pleased to give South Australians access to advice, choice and opportunity in disability supports all under one roof.”

Adelaide Disability Expo exhibitors offer a wide range of supports in housing, in-home care, community access, employment, Allied Health and much more. Expo attendees can connect directly to exhibitors about their individual needs, access information about assistive technology and get advice about making the most of their NDIS plan.

The Adelaide Disability Expo, presented by Afford, is a FREE event and will be held on Thursday, 13th May 2021 from 10am to 4pm at The Lights Community and Sports Centre (East Parkway, Lightsview, SA).

For 70 years, Afford has championed choice, respect and opportunity for people with disability under the NDIS and advocated for inclusivity for people of all abilities.

Afford is a registered charity and provides a range of services under the NDIS to help individuals and their families and carers find genuine support and up-to-date advice about opportunities for home, work and wellbeing.
